I shall be stewarding at Sidmouth, under my other name of Peter Taylor, and I shall have with me for sale at 12GBP copies of Graeme's second song book, 'Forgotten Songs Remembered'. I shall also have copies of the latest 'Folk Leads'. If you've had previous issues you'll doubtless want the new one, and if you haven't here's your chance to find out what you've been missing.
As I'm with the children's team I shall be around Blackmore Gardens and St John Ambulance Hall in the afternoons, otherwise just around.

Graeme's book is excellent - I got a copy from Sam and Ed a couple of months ago. it is a goldmine for singers and very good value for money.

To the best of my knowledge Graeme has not made a CD, but Martyn Wyndham-Read has recorded 'My Eldorado' twice, originally on the LP 'Across the Line' and then on the CD 'Beneath a Southern Sky', which is still available, either through Martyn's website www.martynwyndhamread.com or from Fellside Recordings. Marie Little recorded it on 'My Eldorado' and 'Hot Pants to Hot Flushes', available from Greengage Recordings, 18 Church Street, West Rainton, Nr Durham, DH4 6NR, and there may be other recordings I'm unaware of.

I believe that Graeme made some recordings himself for Peter Kennedy, and that these were available from Folktrax originally as audiotapes, and subsequently as CDs. I cannot at the moment check that My Eldorado was on them, but I suspect it was. Folktrax no longer operates since Peter went to the great singaround in the sky. There is a thread on this subject currently running and if you contact the people mentioned therein they may be able to help you.

I wonder, has anyone seriously recorded Robin Dale singing Graeme's songs? Autumn don't feel complete without his keening rendition of 'Sea Coal' (as we huddled by the blazing fire in The Colpitts...)

I've got 4 of those Folktrax CDs but My Eldorado isn't on any of them. Someone once told me that Graeme set himself a target of writing over 100 songs in quite a short space of time, is there any truth in this? I did speak to him once and got the impression that he'd written some of them more through perspiration than inspiration.

If my memory serves me, The Wilsons recorded an album of Graeme's songs a number of years ago.

I have heard that the original Fettlers had sometimes to fill quite long spots at the Sun (or wherever Stockton FC met in the early days) so Graeme was asked to produce new material on a VERY regular basis.

Mike and Norma Watersons used to do "Young Engineer" about the building of the Forth Road Bridge and how people came from all over to build it.

There was indeed an LP (vinyl) by the Wilsons called Horumarye which consisted entirely of Graeme Miles songs. I doubt if Eldorado is on it. To the best of my recollection it included only songs about local Teesside places. Eldorado is of course in Suffolk!

'Horumarye & other songs of Teesside & the Clevelands' was put on to CD by the Wilsons a little while back, and they were selling it at Shrewsbury last year as a flat pack. As well as the title track it has: Farndale Daffodils; At Yarm Fair; Redcar Lads; Eskwaterdale; Green Coats and Beagles; An Evening in Summer; Running Fox; Dark December; Across the Hills of Yatton; The Roving Minstrels; The Shores of Old Blighty; The Lairdsfield Disaster; Sea Coal.
I imagine you can still get from them.
