The room is open and there are 4 of us in there. We need more people!

Jon

It's still going.

I have done:

Sweet Thames Flow Softley
Deportees

A tip for admins, I disovered that you can type into the text above the chat. I changed it to read "No recordings or karoke please". Perhaps admins may like to type somthing like that in when they open the room. I am still learning with PalTalk and possible problems with an open room - please be patient with me and those who enter the room but aren't used to our ways. I know that we have some notices but most people are used to the usual karaoke PalTalk setup and are quite resonable when politely and privately told something may not be appropriate for this room.

We picked up a couple of good ones tonight, one player who just played a whistle tune and someone called speck who has been with us for at least an hour and is still joining in. Things like this encourage me...

Jon

I was there for a while at the beginning, but due to an early morning schedule could not stay longer. I did manage to get in two tunes on the banjo. I would encourage all those with bad experiences with hear me to try Paltalk. It is much easier to use and to set up initially. The sound seems to be much better on this program. It was good to meet with all the folks that were there last night and I look forward to many more sessions.

I was in a session a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I've been looking on and of since, but never saw the Mudcat room again. Glad to hear that it is still active. Hope to see you there soon.

Jon, I was just in the Song Circle and noticed that your addition about no recordings or karaoke are still there. I didn't want to type into the header for fear I might add something that would be persistent, but I suspect your ability to do so may have to do with ownership of the room. Actually, I just went in again and tryed, figuring I could erase anything I added, but I was not allowed to type anything in. When I tryed to click on that area of the window, my cursor flashed back down to the text chat entry box. So I guess it's to do with the room ownership. However, I agree with your additions. Hopefully they'll head off some of the inappropriate performers we've had and still encourage visitors/newcomers to share their skills with us.

Duh....

To think I typed the word 'tryed' twice in one paragraph. Of course it should be 'tried.'

Yes, last night there was someone in called Lily of the Valley, who had never been in before. She was genuinely curious about the setup "D'you not have any recordings then?" She accepted our answer and hung about for quite a while, listening and joining in the chat. I think Jon's right. It is encouraging.

question for Jon,

I left the room yesterday to get admin rights, (on the advice of jacko who was leaving)... left 2 people in the room....

I came back as an admin but was in the room on my own... but yet the other 2 people were still in the original room. eg 2 mudcat rooms open at the same time... is that supposed to happen?

Alison, I think the room stays open as long as there's anyone in there - even after the admin. leaves. It closes when the last person has left and it would need an admin to re-open it.

Saying that, I think it does NEED an admin in there constantly, to kind of run things, especially when someone who doesn't know the setup turns up.

Just a thought,

Catrin

No Alison. Are you sure that you did not create your own temporary room in error? From the admin menu is the groupd window, you have to use the open/join room as admin and select squiggle from the dropdown list and enter the code. I can't think of any other reason whay that should have occured.

Snap Alison.

I did your trick the other day and wondered what the devil was happening.

I found myself admining an empty room while the folks I'd left were still elsewhere

Alison, we have solved the mystery. This problem occurs when I have changed the title of the room while it is open. Anyone entering as an Admin gets sent to a new room with the new title.

The fisrt time I changed the title was to indicate that the room was for live folk and blues music and I also added no recordings or karaoke but although the text fitted on the input form, I noticed that it was truncated on the group window so I made another edit. I don't foresee myself making and more changes to this but if I do, I will make them when the room is closed.

I've heard about HeaerMe, but Paltalk's a new name to me - I was going to ask about it here. But then I found this link through Forum Search.

I've still got a reluctance to sit in fronmt of a comuter singing, but now I've got a new computer which is a bit more sound-friendly, so I might try it.
