Sadly the death has taken place of singer and actor Adam Faith age 62. Born Terry Nelhams he began his musical career in a skiffle group, "The Worried Men." He hit the charts when he went solo and had two Number 1 hits. ("What Do You Want?" and "Poor Me"). He entered acting and had successes with the TV series "Budgie" and appeared in such films as "Stardust" (1974) and "MacVicar" (1980). The last few years were traumatic when he nearly lost his leg as a result of a crash, had heart problems and suffered bankruptcy. Another to join the great choir in the sky.

Good grief, I thought of him as my vintage! Not much difference! I guess that makes me an old fart (but not a boring one, I hope).

Oh, that is sad....I don't remember him as a singer but he used to be in tv show in the 70's ( I think) called Budgie and I had the most desperate crush on him.It also has quite a nice theme tune as I recall.

Very sad news. I thought the stuff he did with the Roulettes was pretty good and I still still like "What Do You Want" and "Poor Me" RIP Terry.

mike, mike, mike! Dear oh dear! What is a skiffle group? Tut, tut! See this thread where all is revealed.

I always had a soft spot for Adam, he sang flat like me, his acting, especially on stage, was wooden (and he was in Peter Sellers' worst film : Never let go- they were both dreadful in it- )his financial column was a disaster and his website went belly up but he always bounced back.

Just to add a folky connection - so that this thread doesn't get classified BS. Adam once recorded what he called "When Johnny Comes Marching home" as the B side of one of his hit singles. The song is well known to folkies and others under many titles but I believe it to be an American Civil War song

Had a crush on him when I was young too!! I remember his songs "what do you want" and "poor me" I always thought of him as a real nice person and by the sounds of it a true survivor in life. I loved him in Budgie. Sad news indeed.
Rest easy Adam

Oh dear ... and I could sing all his hits when I was at school ... I must be older than I thought: he was only ten years older than me.

Sir Roger, I haven't checked any of the Sixties chart sites, but my ever alert adolescent memory remembers Adam Faith singing "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again" on one of the Sixties pop shows , probably "Thank Your Lucky Stars", so I don't think it was a B-side, but an A-side.

I could however be wrong.

RIP Adam Faith.

One of my closest friends at school was a dead ringer for him, and had a phenomenal scoring rate as a result ...

Obviously my memory is not what it was.

I have been a Buddy Holly freak since before I first heard Adam and, when I heard his first hit single, I thought that he was a pale imitation of the great man. However, he had his own style and did some interesting stuff.

John Barry provided the backing on the early records with his orchestra and it was his film score for Adam's first film that got him into what he is best known for now - movie music (especially James Bond.)

The John Barry Seven was a great band, but I don't think they would qualify as an "orchestra".

The guitarist (who was a really good picker) rejoiced in the unlikely name of Vic Flick.

One of Adam Faith's achievements was his readiness to champion Lonnie Donegan whose career had got a bit sidelined into panto and end-of-the-pier stuff. Adam Faith banged on about Lonnie's crucial place in British cultural history, and eventually got the media to recognise it too, luckily before Lonnie cashed in his chips.
Soemthing to watch out for if you're planning any gigs in Stoke(as I often do!!). Adam Faith died when rehearsing a theatre show in Stoke. The day Lonnie died, he was scheduled to play Stoke.

To paraphrase John Betjamin then - "Come friendly bombs and fall on Stoke." :-)

Another one gone, sad, especially when they are not that much older than oneself! Chastening thought. Must avoid Stoke!

He was a tolerable singer, a sometimes entertaining actor, but never convincing as a financial guru.

Don't know if there's already been a thread about poor old Adam, but I saw a very small piece in our Western Australian Sunday Newspaper saying that he had passed away last week. Apparently he had a heart attack after a show. Only 61 too.

I always held him in high regard both as a singer and actor.

Very sad news indeed.
