Well, Charley, then I won't bring the book I've got for you -- reminiscences of the St. Lawrence .

Another time.

Gotta dig out the loaner Stan Rogers videotape, too. I think I know where it might be . . . (at least I know what ROOM it's in!!!)

I know there's other stuff I have to bring along.

Charley,
Stallion says "Hi". Your "Yangtze River" will be on their nest CD. Very exciting.

Someday, someday I'll get there again. If my morris team hadn't accepted another invitation to dance on Saturday, I mighta really of managed it this time. Ah, well.

Have fun, y'all!

Allison

Allison....SHEESH! I see your name, and think "Ooh, she posted in the thread, so maybe...," then I read on, only to have my hopes dashed to the ground and stomped on. 'Someday' indeed! You know what we need around here? A Mudcat mullah. Someone who will go around to those who don't show up where other Mudcatters think they ought to be, and whack them (lightly) upside the head with a jingle stick. So there. Upside the head with a Mudlah's jingle stick, missy! (Have fun morrising.)

And Roll & Go having the nerve, the NERVE I say, to schedule a flippin' recording session on the same day as the Shanty Session! And what's WORSE - to GO to it! Buncha jamokes! (pickin' on a banjo)

I have to try to remember songs I know, and find the words to some Charley normally does but will be fair game today. (haha)

Yes, I will be there.

Jer et al-

We finished our recording session at 4:30 pm but none of us had the energy to run down to the Press Room. I feel really drained, big time. I think we laid down 18 tracks, most of which are keepers. We're planning a follow-up session for the ones we blew and a few other ones we need to still work up for recording.

I'd be very flattered if you'd lead any of my songs. In fact Judy and I offer you the same recording deal that we're offered Barry, but he gets his session first. Think seriously about that one!

I'm sure you're all having great good fun singing up a storm.

Have a round on me!

The check's in the mail...

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

A thoroughly satisfying evening. Thank you to Tom for a belated but totally enjoyable Maggie Mae. Jeff offered some teasers from his new CD, I "bruced a few", Bruce did not "bruce" but did manage to play through the evening on a five string guitar. Jeri, as always, was wonderful and overcame the back table noise with Fire Down Below. The ladies at the front table managed the "Bonnie Ship the Diamond" with lyric help from our own Tami. Linn beat Bruce to "Fairwell to Nova Scotia" but it didn't stop him from doing it too. Barbara mostly sang harmony this time around. Who have I missed? OH The man with the squeeze box and his wife (?). That third Guinness left me a little befuddled so my notes are sketchy.

"The man with the squeezebox" = Emery Hutchins ("Hutch") and Meg Terreson -- not his wife (Kit, I think, would get a giggle about that). Meg was a Press Room Friday stalwart, but work, etc. considerations have kept her from attending for several years. This was the first time Meg's been to the seamusic singaround.

They both were in the vicinity because of the garden tour and came to the session independently, but happened to arrive at the same time. (Left about the same time, too, but heading in different directions. Hutch lives in Maine and Meg is the last house in Nottingham, just down the road from Jeri.)

Was really nice to have Lynn Cullen join us. She was "last seen" at the first China Seas shanty sings that Tom and I went to about 3 years ago. Tyler Buck, who showed up later with her friend Jan, evidently told her that Saturday was the day. (I got organized this time and actual set out reminders to my "musical events" list -- Tyler's on it.)

Lynn is planning on attending a Song Circle when she gets back from the UK. Did anyone mention it to Hutch and Meg?

I had a good time, but I still need to learn more songs, at least to the point where I can bruce them. I'm working on Cork Harbor. Something in the way I talked more than I usually do cumulatively in 3 or 4 months tells me I need to get out more.

Sister Mary, when are you boiling the bugs?

Sorry I couldn't be there - we were enjoying the mud at a Bluegrass festival.

Yes, Jeri -- you need to get out more!!!

Jaysus, we're all trying to learn new songs. Life gets in the way. Or at least earning a living does. (Anybody know of a stress-free way to pay the bills and keep the roof over your head from leaking too much?!?)

By the way, I sent Jeff the photos from last month's Sinsull Sing. Still haven't listened to all the tapes cuz I have to actually LISTEN to them rather than just jot down the song and continue reading whatever book or magazine I'm working on.

Looks like I'm going to be missing shanty sings for the rest of the summer, until September. Bugger!

However, I should be able to make the July 2 Song Circle.

Pleased to hear the shanty sing went well.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

"Jed Marum's House Concert on August 11"

I'm actually back in Maine at that time. Could you tell me more about where it is?

Charley Noble
