Subject: Missing C Fox-Smith poem From: bradfordian Date: 09 Aug 08 - 07:45 PM I found many Cicely Fox-Smith poems in the PUNCH magazine, (Charley Noble & Shanteyman uploaded these to OLDPOETRY.COM) but there was just one which defied the harvest. Libraries bind such magazines into volumes, and if one is lucky, there will be a volume index too. This is the case with Punch. All good and well! But from time to time, Punch published additional "specials". It turns out that there is a CFS poem in one of these specials; however, it was not incorporated into the binding of the 2 libraries I used (Nottingham & Bradford, UK)for my research. So, my challenge is, for any librarian amongst our number, or members who have ready access to a main library to see if your library archived in some way (binding or micro-fische)the 1950 Punch ALMANACK which contains the CFS poem "The Best Days". Be aware there are 2 volumes for each year. Any takers? Or perhaps someone knows another way! |

Subject: RE: Poem Challenge (Find) From: Charley Noble Date: 09 Aug 08 - 07:55 PM Bradfordian- "The Best Days"? I guess we'll have to hold a page for that one. You did succeed in finding at least 60 C. Fox Smith poems in the post 1933 Punch Magazines which had never been republished in her poetry books. That's not a bad record, but one more wouldn't hurt either. Then there are all those other magazines! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
