In the Black Velvet Band thread there is an alternative version, that lists the tune as Tars of Blanch . Does any one know this tune, or where it is published.

Just to cover both bases, I have re-posted this in the new thread:

An interesting question, and one I hope to see answered, but the fact that the 'Barking' version of Black Velvet Band starts to look like the original (there being no other locale on the early broadsheets), suggests that the Tars of Blanch tune may be the familiar (at least here in Australia and in the UK) one that has survived to be collected in several variants.
