Subject: acceptable in folk club From: Alice in Montana Date: 09 Jul 97 - 01:55 PM RE: thread on what is a folk song. Interesting discussion. We don't have a folk club here, but a few of us who like to sing that are in the Sunday night Irish Session have gotten together twice in the last couple months at coffee houses where we sang in a round robin circle. There are only about six of us. The only comment on what was "acceptable" was to try to keep it folk and traditional, in the hope that we could avoid "self-penned songs of teenage angst". But if such a song came up and we enjoyed it!!! I'm sure it would have been welcomed. Alice |
Subject: RE: acceptable in folk club From: Bert Hansell Date: 09 Jul 97 - 04:39 PM Alice in Montana, That sound pretty much like a folk club to me. I sneak in a home brewed song now and then when the time seems right. I've never had anyone complain. Folk singers are very polite and tolerant:-) Bert. |
