Just come home from Dartmoor Folk Festival in a little village called South Zeal on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon.
Met Deni - still singing beautifully, with her hubby Ned, and Jude there, and possibly others who I don't know! It was a great weekend. It is one of the most laid back festivals there is, great singing, music and a good helping of dancing and workshops. They have a Dartmoor broom dance contest open to under 16s, the Dartmoor Step Dance championships for under 16s and over 16s (Pete Coe entered this year, but was pipped at the post by Jason Rice!)
Guests included Pete & Sue Coe, Jez Lowe, Old Hat, Graham O'Callaghan, Tim Van Eyken and Rob Harbron, Rosie Stewart, The Fraser sisters (accompanied by Ralph Jordan and Dave Sturt) Kieron Means (Sara Grey's son)Cornwall Songwriters production 'The Cry of Tin', Betty & Norman Mc Donald and The ever popular Dartmoor Pixie Band.
There was a great atmosphere - a great bonus for me was that 2 of the very popular Johnson Girls from across the pond looked in after Sidmouth, to see 'The Cry Of Tin' and sang at the Saturday night sing around. I was sad to have to come home, some were still horse from the Anchor at Sidmouth, but it didn't seem to matter, if you couldn't or didn't make it this year, make a note in your diary, great time, great location! 9 to 11 August 2002
