I have used Eudora for years, but recent security changes in mail server programs require that I use the newest version, which has advertising and requires a fix that doesn't work with my server, anyway--I have been Microsoft-Free for a year and a half, so don't suggest that I go back, and POPThing just doesn't make it--any ideas?

Sure! Get Entourage -- it comes as part of Office for OSX. It has all th efeatures you could want, and I've been using it for a year now with nary a glitch!
