Subject: The telling takes me home From: Dave S. Date: 19 Jun 98 - 11:47 PM In the "What's playing" thread I was inspired to grab an Art Thieme record. I picked the "That's the Ticket" and was instantly transported back to Ironwood Folk Festival in Upper Michigan. A cold bright sky night when I first heard Art play two awesome Craig Johnson tunes. Listening to these tunes always takes me back to that night. Lying in the dew to stare at the most fantastic northern lights I've ever seen, then eating pasties for the first time, and camping on the shores of Lake Superior. Seven years later, I moved to LaCrosse Wis. and ran into neighbor camper from a total campsite of 20 people. I hope the telling takes us all back. (My regards to Utah Phillips.) |
Subject: RE: The telling takes me home From: Art Thieme Date: 29 Jun 98 - 08:38 PM Thanks so much for your kind words! We've been talking about North Country Festival quite a bit at Mudcat lately. Yes, Craig is an amazing writer and musician. The Double Decker String Band he & Bruce Hutton are a part of is a fine group. But right now Craig's going for his doctorate and not playing as much. I just saw a tornado over LaCrosse 2 days ago going home from Mayo Clinic. Hope it didn't do much damage. Two other grand songs by Mr. Johnson will be on the CD I'm trying to work on. Thanks again, Art Thieme |
