Subject: FIGA convention From: Homeless Date: 17 Jul 03 - 10:04 PM Is anyone going to be attending this? The Fretted Instrument Guild of America (FIGA) is having their annual convention in Peoria. The local Central Illinois Banjo Club is hosting the convention. The players are from all over the US and some of the best players in the world will be entertaining. About 90% of the players are 4 string banjo players. The music is Dixieland Jazz style, with some bands doing sing along tunes such as played in the past at Shakey's Pizza. The convention will be held at the Pere Marquette, which is sold out. We expect about 250 players, 400+ total attendees. This is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some of the best players in the world. The group will have 100 players at Brown Bag It on August 1st. There are different concerts each night at the Pere Grand Ballroom. Price for each concert is $ 5.00. Thursday July 31st 7:00, Friday August 1st at 7:00, and Saturday August 2nd at 7:30. After concert jam sessions will last into the wee hours. Drop by if you are out late. There is a 2 hour jam/cruise on the Spirit of Peoria at 2:00 PM Friday, August 1st. Cost is $15.00. Tickets available at the door, at the dock, or by mail. For further details call: John Dystrup 651 Knoll Crest Dr. Peoria, IL 61614 (309)682-6058 |
