Danny O'Flaherty, of Connemara and late of New Orleans, will be giving a house concert at my home in East Lyme CT on Friday, August 25, at 7 p.m.
Danny grew up in the gaeltacht, Gaelic-speaking western Ireland and the Aran Islands, and is a wonderful performer of the traditional songs and tunes of the area, as well as his own songs. He plays 6- and 12-string guitar, accordion, whistles and harmonica as well. For 19 years he ran and performed at O'Flaherty's Irish Channel Pub in New Orleans. New England fans recall his appearance at the Katrina benefit at the Garde in New London, along with Tommy Makem, Makem and Spain Brothers, Aoife Clancy, Robbie O'Connell, and Geoff Kaufman, and his recent appearance at the Mystic Sea Music Festival. His charisma and passion for the traditions of his homeland make for an event that is informative as well as entertaining; one can expect laughter, tears, and food for thought every time.
