The Weatherman by Watt Nicoll, from Wattcha (XTRA 1108, 1970)

THE WEATHERMAN
(Matt Nicoll)

Now, the Weatherman and his wife live next door tae me.
That's no great advantage, I'm sure you'll agree;
For when my wife does a washing it rains every time,
But the sun's always shining on their washing line.

For she can read the weather, you should hear that woman talk,
Of her husband and his habits, and his wee weathercock.

Says my wife to his wife, "Will ye teach me how to tell,
That I might do my washing on a fine day as well?"
"That's easy," says his wife, "in the morning tak a look.
And learn to read your husband's weathercock like a book!"

"If it lies on the left side, there's rain on the line,
If it's lyin' on the right side it's going to be fine."

So early next morning I wakes from my sleep,
And we rolled down the blankets and my wife took a peek.
"Oh, it's neither left nor right, love, it's standing up straight
An' the hell wi' the weather, the washin' can wait!"

Ah, she can read the weather, you should hear my wife talk,
Of her husband and his habits, and his big weathercock.

Heh, heh! I used to sing that back in the 1970s. Might revive it sometime - thanks for the reminder.
