I'm coming over to Boston on 7th Sept. and heading North taking in the places in the header. Apart from the Press Room in Portsmouth which I know of, anything else going on that would fit in with this loose agenda. Boston..Quebec...Montreal...Hanover....Owego

Woodchucks' Revenge at MorningStar Cafe, Springfield, VT, Saturday evening, September 15. Springfield is in southeastern VT - 1/2 - 3/4 hr. from Hanover, I'd think.

We do our usual Tuesday night jam session here in Montpelier. I'll also give the folk events calendar a listen as we get closer to the date and take notes. Any particular interests (dance/singing/playing/singer songwriter?) Same rule applies, each Catter gets one free meal at my Kitchen.

Looking forward to meeting you, Giok, at The Press Room! (You saved all the directions and parking info, right?)

It's a shame you can't extend your trip two more days. The Boston Folk Festival is on September 22 and 23. However, the Press Room is worth all of that.

Will you be at the Press Room on the 7th or the 14th? How early does your flight arrive?

I'm working on getting to the Press Room on 7th, our flight arrives at Logan late on 6th and we will be a bit bushed so I've booked into an hotel near the airport. Then we pick up our hire car a.m. on 7th, so we got plenty time to mosey round Boston and still get up to Portsmouth, book a motel, eat, and find the venue. No Bat Goddess I didn't save the directions, that was going to be one of my next questions.

Oops, once wrong keystroke in a command and a whole sentence goes missing. What was supposed to be in the above post was that I would find the directions from the old thread and re-post them here in a minim.

Geez, another typo, but at least not in the command. And I'm supposed to be a type fanatic and proofreader! (Am I awake yet?)

So here's the directions to the Press Room. Please be advised it's best to get there between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. The session lasts until around 9 p.m. It's in the back of the room in a usually crowded pub and situated in between the kitchen and the waitresses who are trying valiantly to save everyone from dying of thirst.

The address is 77 Daniel Street and it is located between the Piscataqua River (and the bridge to Maine) and Market Square, the heart of downtown. It's across the street from the Post Office/Federal Building. Daniel St. (which becomes Congress St. which becomes Islington St. in not too many blocks) is one way going away from the river, as is State St. (going towards the river). Parking either involves going around in circles for awhile looking for an available spot or taking a berth at the Parking Garage (3 blocks away). The phone number of The Press Room is 431-5186.

Oh, Daniel St. is Rte 1 south and State St. is Rte 1 north, if that helps clarify anything.

If anyone needs answers, ask questions! Ask questions!

Giok, looks like you'll be joining us at The Press Room on Sept. 7, right?

I was just checking the calendar, and noted that a number of our regular musicians (The Angel Band, strictly Celtic instrumental music, highly O'Carolan, though several members sing at the sessions) are NOT going to be at the session on Sept. 14, which would be a good session for other Mudcat vocalists (oh, instrumentalists, too, I guess) to join us.

The major "problem" at the Press Room sessions is crowding -- we don't have a lot of room for musicians or listeners. But the addition of a single musician is no problem -- especially when we know in advance.

Looking forward to your visit, Giok!

There's a calendar of Montreal folk events on Mike Regenstreif's Folk Roots/Folk Branches site. Go to http://www.ckutfolk.com/coming.htm and scroll down the page.

I was up in Montreal on Friday night for the John Prine/Tom Russell show. What a great evening that was, although I wish that Tom Russell had had more time on stage.

Oh Bah Humbug! September 14 is my coffeehouse night and I cannot get to Portsmouth.

On the other hand...

Hooray! September 14 is the next opening of the Mocha Cafe Coffeehouse. Ya'll come along now, ya hear?
