Subject: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: greg stephens Date: 26 Mar 06 - 05:08 AM We have been working on getting regional folk music into more mainstream society. WE (the Boat Band, that is) have a new CD out of Cumbrian tunes entitled "A Trip to the Lakes", and I believe it is being(or about to be) stocked by the "Food from the Fells" shop at Forton(Lancaster) service station, on the northbound side. Trouble is I don't know if it's got into the shop, I know it's got as far as the central office of "Made in Cumbria" in Kendal. So, if anyone's driving nth up the M6 (or even south, but you'ld have to walk over the3 bridge), would you mind popping into the shop (it's just on the right as you go in, it sells Cumberland sausage and cheese and stuff). And see if there any "Trip to the Lakes" CDs displayed, and report back; because, as it is an entirely new venture, I am extremely keen to see how it's going. And I can't get around Cumbria for a week, I am working down south. The CDs are going to be going to various Cumbrian tourist place as well, sso any other sightings would be of interest, I'm not entirely sure where they are going to end up. Should you buy a copy, note the small print on the back, there is a competition which could win you a bottle of whisky(or the equivalent in herbal teabags). |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: GUEST,DB Date: 26 Mar 06 - 09:49 AM I'm aware that it is now wild daffodil time in your part of the world and I'm planning a trip up there to take photographs in the next few days. I'll try to remember to pop into Forton Services, on the way up. I'll also buy a CD if they're available. Anyway, best of luck with the CD - and may I say that I really envy you for living in the most beautiful part of England! |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: greg stephens Date: 26 Mar 06 - 10:27 AM Yes the daffs are actually out now. Better late than never. Spring has been a long time coming this year. |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: sapper82 Date: 26 Mar 06 - 01:58 PM You thought about getting it into the Tebay Service Area? Independently owned and got to be the best on the UK motorway network! |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: greg stephens Date: 27 Mar 06 - 02:04 AM I have sent a copy to the owner of Westmorland Services at Tebay, but haven't had a reply yet. It wouid certainly be an ideal place. |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: greg stephens Date: 28 Mar 06 - 03:22 PM Refresh No definite sighting yet...maybe somebody is driving up there tomorrow? |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: Ian Date: 29 Mar 06 - 10:12 AM Hi Greg, I have asked a friend and family up there to look around. Her daughter worked for Harbourtown for a while so they should know where to look. Ian |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: GUEST,DB Date: 29 Mar 06 - 12:54 PM Hi Greg, Just to let you know that I managed to make my trip up the M6 this morning. I dropped in to Forton Services and am happy to report that they did have several copies of your CD - and I am now the proud owner of one! I've just got in so haven't had a chance to play it yet - I'll give you my honest opinion when I've done so. I managed to find loads of wild daffs, around the Arnside area, and almost filled a CF card with pictures. The weather was excellent and I've had a fine day out. |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: greg stephens Date: 29 Mar 06 - 01:33 PM Brilliant, that was what I wanted to hear. Thanks very much. More sightnings, please. I need to know when they sell out and I'm not convinced they'll ring and let us know instantly. |

Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: andrewq Date: 16 Apr 06 - 10:18 AM Reported sighting: I bought a copy of "A Trip To The Lakes" at Forton services yesterday. They had about 4 copies on display. That specialist shop is a real improvement to the usually predictable fare. |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: greg stephens Date: 24 Apr 06 - 05:50 AM andrewq: hope you enjoyed it. If anybody wants to look out for the CD in more salubrious surroundings than Forton services, try the Bluebird Cafe in Coniston. It is the onw down by the lake, where you go for trips on the steamboat Gondola, or to hire rowing boats. A lovely spot, but the owner thinks sales need stimulating, so here I am doing my bit! You can buy Arthur Ransome books as well, and loads of stuff about Donald Campbell. BY the way, the prize competiton, described on the back of the CD has still not been won. Many suggestions have been maade, and they are all wrong. So, if you want a bottle of good whisky or the equivalent, identify the location of the photo pn the front, and the prize is yours. |
Subject: RE: anyone going up the M6? (UK) From: greg stephens Date: 04 May 06 - 06:12 PM Well, I dont know if anyone has bought a CD at the Bluebird Cafe in Coniston yet, but I do know they are doing OK in Forton Service station because they have rung up for more CDs to stock up with(or so the record company tell me). |
