Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: GUEST,coltish ankle Date: 11 Feb 05 - 04:29 AM I've heard a rumour that there is a gypsy vardo - what's that all about then? |
Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: Josher Date: 11 Feb 05 - 06:08 AM A gypsy vardo for info is the name of the traditional wagon the travellers called home. we have been contacted by a Romany lady who still has a vardo and is will to come to the festival and show the vardo and also show some traditional crafts. All this with other craft and boat related events will be on the Salinae Josher |
Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: GUEST,coltish ankle Date: 11 Feb 05 - 10:32 AM What is the Salinae |
Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: GUEST Date: 12 Feb 05 - 12:04 PM Tinytinlady also playing at glastonbury, and various other festivals this summer, played at the last cropredy, fairport love them. |
Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: greg stephens Date: 12 Feb 05 - 05:29 PM What's this Salinae thing? I've been hanging around Middlewich since well before the Roman invasion but I cant say I've heard of it. Some kind of old salt's tale? |
Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: GUEST,Dave Roberts Date: 13 Feb 05 - 12:10 PM Well, the 'Salinae' is actually the 'Salinae Centre' - a Cheshire County Council Day Care Centre and clinic in Lewin Street. It's named after the supposed Roman name for Middlewich, Salinae, or 'salt works'. Some Roman historians dispute this and claim that Middlewich was actually 'Condate' - a name usually ascribed to Northwich and meaning 'meeting of the waters'. I could go on, but life's too short... |
Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: Josher Date: 13 Feb 05 - 02:29 PM hi all the Salinae is my shorthand for a green area (grass) at the back of the day centre which is where most of the Canal related activities will be held, mainly because it's next to the canal. Josher |

Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: Josher Date: 15 Feb 05 - 02:14 PM Hi all slight Technical glitch with the new format for the website normal service to be resumed ASAP Josher |
Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: GUEST Date: 16 Feb 05 - 08:08 PM Tiny Tin Lady? I saw them at Cropredy and I thought they were very good. They're amazingly young - one of them's like 13 or something. Good songs though - all their own, I think and really good harmonies. Fairport love them & Ralph McTell raves about them. I see they're at Poynton as well as Glastobury & others. |

Subject: RE: Middlewich 2005 From: greg stephens Date: 02 Mar 05 - 12:52 PM Another date for peoples' diaries, which might tie in with your plans. I've just be taken on to help organise aspects of the Stoke-on-trent Canals Festival. It's going to be on MaY 28/29, and is based at the Etruria Industrial Museum(at the junction of the Caldon with the Trent and Mesey). It is not specifically a folk(or music festival) but there will be plenty of musical fun to be had. I will start a thread on this later when I get a grip on what's going on, but it will be music and boat friendly(that's what they've pulled me in for). |
