Subject: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: NicoleC Date: 05 Apr 03 - 01:59 AM I just learned that a local favorite of mine is playing the spring Strawberry Music Festival at Camp Mather in Yosemite, CA. 2 minutes later, I learned it was sold out -- bummer! However, the line up for Fall 2003 (Aug 28 - Sept 1) is pretty hot, including Patty Griffin, Alison Krause & Union Station, Laurie Lewis, Great Big Sea, Sam Bush, and many others. And I've never been, but it looks like a lot of fun, and I'm thinking of trying to get together a gang to go. Any Mudcatter's planning to attend? Anyone who has been and can tell me if the steep ticket price is worth it? (Not that bad, though, $130/$140 for 4 days including camping.) |

Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: open mike Date: 05 Apr 03 - 03:23 AM i have been there twice a year for nearly 20 years... each memorial and labor day weekend is reserved for Strawberry! It is like a huge family reunion! The friejnds I camp with have become my family and the chat list of festival folks is an extended family which i look forward to connecting with each day when the list arrives in my e-mail box! There is a ticket trading site which might be possible to get a ticket thru if you check there soon. The spring "berry has been sold out for a while, and i suggest if you want to go to the fall one, on labor day, you secrue yuour tickets soon, as it has sold out for years as well; though they do sell a few more tix for the fall fest as the meadows are quite wet, and canmping space more limited in the spring. I have woprked on thje Hog Ranch Radio Crew, and in the artisans tent, and at the front ticket gate at the festival for years. People get into their festival camp groups, inventing camp names, personae, and on & on. some camp names: camp decadence, Tequila Flats, Camp Remember, Camp Pig Out, Camp Howdy, and others including ours: Camp Dung Beetle. Check this web site: www.strawberrymusic.com here is the info on the mailing list: Send Strawberry mailing list submissions to strawberry@hogranch.com To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://www.hogranch.com/mailman/listinfo/strawberry or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to strawberry-request@hogranch.com You can reach the person managing the list at strawberry-admin@hogranch.com and here is the site where ticket info is shared: is the Strawberry Ticket Exchange Forum http://phorum.freeradio.com/list.php?f=8 but i have seen way more requests for tickets than there are tickets to offer... http://phorum.freeradio.com/ |
Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: Rolfyboy6 Date: 05 Apr 03 - 10:29 AM I go when circumstances and finances allow and it's worth every penny. While I'm a blues nut and Strawberry is somewhat weak in that area, the festival really takes care of my other musical needs, folk, world, new acoustic, and bluegrass. And if you have kids it's the place to take them. Plus the jamming all night long. The setting is wonderful and the services good. The workshops and special programs are wonderful. and the Sunday morning concerts down at the lake are always a highlight. Go. |

Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: open mike Date: 05 Apr 03 - 03:39 PM roger-surprise! we meet again! we are neighbors at the festival, and i hope if any other mud catters go, they will stop by camp dung beetle and say howdy, and then we eill go around the path, and harrass roger, too! I have been the host of the radio variety show which happens at the dining hall during breakfast... the festival is literally a 3 ring circus where there is always something happeing either on the main stage, at the ampitheatre, at the stage by the lake, or at eh dining hall which alterantes as a breakfast club variety show, a teen dance hall or an after- hours night club. The High Sierra near YOsemite and Hetch Hetchy offers beautiful scenery, and recreational opportunities, and the food and crafts are always excellant as well. the closest thing to Utopia that I know of! |

Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: rangeroger Date: 06 Apr 03 - 01:12 AM NicoleC,it's well worth the money. I have been on staff for both Spring and fall Festivals for the past 17 years and it has become a major part of my life. There are friends there who have become family that I only see twice a year. The festival grounds are magic,at almost 5,000 feet in the Sierras on the edge of Yosemite National Park. Once you go,you will become addicted and all your friends will want to know why you are smiling so much when you return home. It is a life altering experiance. rr |

Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: GUEST,ghost Date: 06 Apr 03 - 06:14 AM It really does sound wonderful, but if it's always sold out, and there's more folks wanting to attend than there are tickets for, how does one attend who hasn't ever been there before, or is that just for those in the know to know? |
Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: open mike Date: 06 Apr 03 - 02:29 PM if you check the links there is a place to search (beg? plead?) for tickets for the memorial day festival, or get tickets, which are still available for the labor day event--quick before they, too, are all gone! The spring fest has, i think, about 3,000 tickets,' and the fall more like 5,000. I Recommend going if you can. |
Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: rangeroger Date: 06 Apr 03 - 08:29 PM Barb, I'll e-mail you. rr |
Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: NicoleC Date: 07 Apr 03 - 12:08 PM One buys tickets very early, ghost! I figure if I buy tickets now, and then can't go, I should have no trouble unloading them later. |
Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: open mike Date: 07 Apr 03 - 01:36 PM true--there are always takers... i bet no-one ends up holdinig tickets if they end u pnot being able to go. |

You've done a fine job describing the fest, for those of you that have never attended it IS well worth the trip and cost. Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: open mike Date: 18 May 03 - 03:50 PM i hear there has been water standing in the meadow where the main stage is-so be prepared for wet and mosquitos. The bridge on evergreen road is being repaired, but should be ready to carry the crowds by festival time. Hope we can meet there. and i hope to find out what a waborita is. hope it is not something involving tequila and wasabi! |

Subject: RE: Fall '03 Strawberry Music Festival From: rangeroger Date: 18 May 03 - 08:42 PM This is really weird for me.I'm sitting at home in North Idaho, when I should be at Mather helping with set up for the Festival. This is the first time in 17 years that I will not be there. Laurel, be sure and sing some for me at Camp Dungbeetle. rr |
