Subject: RE: Only 7 days to the Willie Clancy Week From: GUEST,kenny Date: 27 Jun 05 - 06:39 AM In sheer terms of numbers, the All Ireland Fleadh is much bigger. Anyone here heading to Miltown? |
Subject: RE: Only 7 days to the Willie Clancy Week From: The Shambles Date: 27 Jun 05 - 07:03 AM Size - they say - is not everything............ |
Subject: RE: Only 7 days to the Willie Clancy Week From: GUEST,kenny Date: 27 Jun 05 - 09:55 AM Agree totally, "shambles". All depends if "greatest" meant biggest or best. The Fleadh is undoubtedly the biggest but I know which one I'd rather go to. |

The town's been brightened up a bit this year, more flowers along main street. Some pubs gone, though (Queally's, Casey's, O'Connor's Quilty, Gleeson's Coore, Conway's Mullagh). |

I guess that the answer to my question. Unless I was hallucinating, when I submitted my first post to this thread the only other post that showed was GUEST,Hen Harrier's 27 Jun 05 - 11:55 PM post. Maybe there was another problem with the server??? Hmmmm. Anyway, please excuse my ignorance, but who is {was} Willie Clancy? |

And anybody else who didn't know but might have difficulty visiting the link Joe provided, here's an excerpt: "The Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy is Ireland's largest traditional music summer school, held annually since 1973 in memory of the piper Willie Clancy. During the week, nearly a thousand students from every part of the world attend daily classes taught by experts in Irish music and dance. In addition, a full program of lectures, recitals, dances (céilithe) and exhibitions are run by the summer school." |

Subject: RE: Countdown: Only 3 days to the Willie Clancy Week From: Teribus Date: 02 Jul 08 - 10:09 AM It is without doubt a truly amazing week, unfortunately because Skagen moved fron traditionally being held on the last week-end in June each year to first weekend in July they clash. However Willie Clancy week is all folk whereas Skagen is becoming more and more of a novelty music festival each year - If you have to get togged up in fancy dress and jump about to put life and expression into your music then something has gone wrong. Hope everyone has a blast down there in County Clare, particularly the crew in "The Malby" hopefully being looked after as well as ever by "Vinnie" & co. |
