Subject: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Fortunato Date: 16 Oct 02 - 11:33 AM I'm in guitar heaven, brothers and sisters. Yesterday the '97 Gallagher Doc Watson I ordered from Elderly arrived. I'm completely entranced. Now I know what Doc Watson meant when he said "It rings like a bell." The tone is fat and sweet, and yet crystal clear. It truly rings. It has a spruce top with lots of bearclaw, beautifully matched, and the back and sides are mahogany, equally beautiful. The guitar looks brand new, mint, except for two very, very small blemishes in the finish on bottom lower bout. The neck is without a doubt the best I've ever touched all the way up to the last fret. 'Doc' is just the best guitar overall I've ever played. I'm one lucky old picker...I've found the perfect guitar for me. I just had to tell you, friends. regards, chance |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Midchuck Date: 16 Oct 02 - 12:18 PM Fortunato, I hear you talkin'. In March, I found a Collings 000-2H on eBay, that went at least relatively cheap 'cause it had a couple of dings that made it less than perfect. I haven't felt any craving for any more guitars since then. I sort of miss it. I'm even selling off guitars that aren't getting played. It's sort of scary. I was always convinced that the next guitar I bought would be perfect for me. Does this mean it's all over? Peter. |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Kim C Date: 16 Oct 02 - 01:26 PM The Gallagher Guitar factory is in Wartrace, TN, not too far outside of Nashville. It's a little tiny place. Hope you enjoy your new baby! |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Wesley S Date: 16 Oct 02 - 01:34 PM Fortunato - Congrats - I'm happy for you too. Some people get excited by a new car and that new car smell. But there are us lucky few that know the excitment of popping open a new { or new to us } guitar case so that we can caress that creature inside. I'm in love with my new Collings OOO slot head. I told myself I'd sell my Martin OM-28V to finance a new mandolin purchase but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that. It would be like selling a child. Unthinkable. |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Fortunato Date: 16 Oct 02 - 02:20 PM Hey, Wesley, good to hear from you. How's the family? How's Bronwyn doing? Wesley, I've regretted every guitar sale, don't do it unless you're at the bitter end of broke. I'd love to see that new Collings. I've been in Dallas a couple of times lately but just at the airport Marriot over night and not the right time to go to your session if its still on. Take care! Chance |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Jeri Date: 16 Oct 02 - 04:34 PM Midchuck - so YOU are what happened to that Collings! I wondered... I'm thinking about another guitar and I'll definitely have to sell an instrument or two. Anybody looking for a top-of-the-line hammered dulcimer? Can't wait to see y'all's guitars! |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 16 Oct 02 - 04:42 PM Congratulations. I ran into an old friend a few years ago that had just won a Gallagher Doc at a flatpicking contest. If yours sounds as good as his you are indeed fortunate. Bruce |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Fortunato Date: 16 Oct 02 - 09:31 PM Thanks, ev'rybody. Yeah, Rick, I'll let you play my 'doc' if you let me touch yo' '41. Let's get big ol' mick and make a little music. And try to fall by our 'old time country music' workshop. I feel like we can stretch it forward to "Thanks, alot"! KimC I called the shop and spoke to Hazel who runs the office, sounds like a real homey little shop. Is that pronounced War/trace or Wart/race?. br>I just spent my second evening with 'Doc' and Susette. Well it just almost plays itself. My simple-minded version of Merle Travis 'Cannonball Blues' just rolls of that guitar, like it's fitting my fingers to the frets. Sheeeet, man. Enough crowing, later brothers and sisters. cheers, chance |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Oct 02 - 09:36 PM Chance, I can't think of anyone more deserving. Your tastes have always been catholic, giving lesser guitars their due when others simply snub their noses at them. I know how you must feel with the Gallagher and I'm sure she has found a good home. Now you and Rick together on some Old Timey.........Ahhhh.....Oughta' be great! Spaw |

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I'm looking forward to picking with Rick and all the mudcatters at the Getaway. I do however wish you were a'comin, and I don't mean breathing hard. Do try and make it next year, hear? |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Rolfyboy6 Date: 16 Oct 02 - 10:35 PM Congratulations, I've had my bottom of the line Gallagher G-45 for 20 years and I love the beast, even tho' it isn't as spiffy as yours. Mine has to be pushed to 'sound out' but when you do it rewards you. Congrats again from another satisfied Gallagher-ite. |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Kim C Date: 17 Oct 02 - 09:55 AM Fortunato, I am ashamed to say, I don't really know! I have always said it War-trace. I have heard some say Wart-race, and others say War-tress. I believe someone once told me that the people who actually live there say Wart-race - I don't know if that's so. The safest thing to say is, "that little town over by Bell Buckle." ;-) |

Subject: RE: 'Doc', my 'new' Gallagher guitar, WOW! From: Fortunato Date: 17 Oct 02 - 02:32 PM Yeah, KimC,no worries, I don't expect to get there any time soon, though I'd like to visit if we're out that way. I figured it was one of those Po-taaa-toe/Po-tah-toe things. Although Wart - race or racing warts is intriguing. cheers, chance |
