I'm in guitar heaven, brothers and sisters. Yesterday the '97 Gallagher Doc Watson I ordered from Elderly arrived. I'm completely entranced. Now I know what Doc Watson meant when he said "It rings like a bell." The tone is fat and sweet, and yet crystal clear. It truly rings. It has a spruce top with lots of bearclaw, beautifully matched, and the back and sides are mahogany, equally beautiful. The guitar looks brand new, mint, except for two very, very small blemishes in the finish on bottom lower bout. The neck is without a doubt the best I've ever touched all the way up to the last fret. 'Doc' is just the best guitar overall I've ever played. I'm one lucky old picker...I've found the perfect guitar for me. I just had to tell you, friends. regards, chance

In March, I found a Collings 000-2H on eBay, that went at least relatively cheap 'cause it had a couple of dings that made it less than perfect. I haven't felt any craving for any more guitars since then. I sort of miss it. I'm even selling off guitars that aren't getting played.

It's sort of scary. I was always convinced that the next guitar I bought would be perfect for me.

Does this mean it's all over?

The Gallagher Guitar factory is in Wartrace, TN, not too far outside of Nashville. It's a little tiny place.

Fortunato - Congrats - I'm happy for you too. Some people get excited by a new car and that new car smell. But there are us lucky few that know the excitment of popping open a new { or new to us } guitar case so that we can caress that creature inside. I'm in love with my new Collings OOO slot head. I told myself I'd sell my Martin OM-28V to finance a new mandolin purchase but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that. It would be like selling a child. Unthinkable.

I still remember getting my D35 thirty odd years ago.I was utterly
lost without it when it had to go into hospital,and I had to make do
with a spare.But it came back fit and well,so I'm happy again.

Congratulations. I ran into an old friend a few years ago that had just won a Gallagher Doc at a flatpicking contest. If yours sounds as good as his you are indeed fortunate.

KimC I called the shop and spoke to Hazel who runs the office, sounds like a real homey little shop. Is that pronounced War/trace or Wart/race?.

Chance, I can't think of anyone more deserving. Your tastes have always been catholic, giving lesser guitars their due when others simply snub their noses at them. I know how you must feel with the Gallagher and I'm sure she has found a good home.

Congratulations, I've had my bottom of the line Gallagher G-45 for 20 years and I love the beast, even tho' it isn't as spiffy as yours. Mine has to be pushed to 'sound out' but when you do it rewards you. Congrats again from another satisfied Gallagher-ite.

Fortunato, I am ashamed to say, I don't really know! I have always said it War-trace. I have heard some say Wart-race, and others say War-tress. I believe someone once told me that the people who actually live there say Wart-race - I don't know if that's so.

The safest thing to say is, "that little town over by Bell Buckle." ;-)
