Subject: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST Date: 04 Aug 03 - 11:06 AM Hi ....I've done my "due diligence" and can only find words.Could someone provide chords appropriate for a ukelele. Thanks a lot. Robin PS It's got this great nonsense verse:- The crows nest fell and it killed the crow and the star-board watch was two hours slow But the Capatain sang Fello-de-oh-doh And he played his Ukelele as the ship went down |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST,Himself Date: 04 Aug 03 - 11:48 AM Thanks for the reply...I can play it and accompany myself on the melodeon but I'm not good at working out names of chords.I was wondering if there was some cool ukelele(or mandolin) progression someone knew...melodeon chords can be limited |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST Date: 08 Aug 03 - 10:12 AM Isn't this properly titled "He Played His Ukelele As The Ship Went Down" ? A "comedy Fox-Trot by Arthur Le Clerq" Published 1932 by Campbell Connolly & Co, London. I have photo copies of the sheet music for it (F Major) with Uke chords in those little chord boxes. If you want to post an address, I'll happily send you a copy. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST,Himself Date: 08 Aug 03 - 07:18 PM Thank you ....Interesting.I have always thought it was called the "Wreck etc" but if you have an original copy, well there it is. 15 Maple Av Brantford Ontario Canada N3T 4B4 Robin Harrison I would be SO grateful for a photocopy. Subject: RE: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST,Himself Date: 08 Aug 03 - 07:24 PM .Howie, yes I SHOULD be able to transcribe it.But for no reason that stands up to scrutiny,I've always played the melodeon by ear and tried to play intuitivly. If I need to work things out or sight -read ,I do it on the english concertina. The trouble arises when I can play a tune or song on one instrument but not another. As probably for most people, time is the issue. Regards Robin |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST Date: 09 Aug 03 - 01:46 PM I'll put in the post to you ASAP. As it is coming from the UK, allow a few days. It's a pleasure. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST,Marian Date: 30 Nov 09 - 10:38 AM Hi I've found this old thread while seeking music/chords for "Nancy Lee" or "He Played His Ukulele While the Ship Went Down." If the very kind person who offered to mail copies of sheet music for this song is still active on Mudcat, could he/she post again and perhaps we can make contact. I'd be more than happy to send postage costs/copying costs via PayPal or whatever if he/she could send me the sheet music. I would then be happy to send in lyrics with chords to Mudcat so that others could have them. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: The Wreck of the Nancy Lee From: GUEST,Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 02 Dec 09 - 04:12 PM It's good to be reminded of the song again. The version we had of it was a 78rpm record on the Piccadilly label , with the song spread over two sides, by the White Star Syncopators. I've still got the record, which I keep for sentimental reasons, because it's now got chips out of it from the edge. The White Star Syncopators was one of more than 100 pseudonyms used by the California Ramblers (a group originally from Ohio, obviously) who used all the names to cover their many exploits other than on the label they were signed to (Columbia).
