Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: Rapparee Date: 20 Dec 08 - 10:58 AM See, when I get back from Deecee next week (George just can't let go of the White House, crying and screaming, "But it's MINE!!" and Laura has asked for my help with him again) I'll be buying all of the folk, blues, jazz, Hawaiian, and Native American nominee albums for the library. You could suggest to YOUR public library that they do this too -- through Camsco Music, of course, as I will be buying them. |

Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: topical tom Date: 20 Dec 08 - 06:39 PM I love Cathy Mattea but my heart says Pete Seeger or Tom Paxton. They're all great! |
Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: Mark Ross Date: 20 Dec 08 - 06:52 PM Give a listen to Rosalie Sorels STRANGERS IN ANOTHER COUNTRY, her tribute to Utah Phillips. My heart wants her to win, but I think that either Pete Seeger or Kathy Mattea will probably win, but they are all deserving. Incidentally, I hear that Paxton is going to get the Life Achievement Award. Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: kendall Date: 20 Dec 08 - 07:14 PM I can't take sides in this one. |
Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 20 Dec 08 - 07:46 PM This is a tough one. Too many sentimental favorite AND too many wonderful CD's. Everyone should have a copy of each in their library - they are that good!! I think it will come down to Pete Seeger or Kathy Mattea. Personally I think they are the strongest recordings of the bunch - each cut fits in the context of the album and collectively make for a superb recording. I think Pete Seeger's CD was brilliantly produced by David Bernz and he created an epic - perhaps the best recording of Seegers illustrious career - and there are many good choices from his discography. I think Kathy Mattea's project was ambitious and it works. It is very difficult for someone with such a stunning voice to make these songs sound real, but there is increcible connections that come through. The contemporary songwriters in the Folk catagory are also superb this year. Good job! |

Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: Dan Schatz Date: 08 Feb 09 - 06:20 PM Pete Seeger, At 89! Congratulations to Pete, David Bernz, Jim Musselman, and all concerned. Also congratulations to Peggy, Tom, Kathy and Rosalie - it was the toughest competition I've ever seen in this category. Pete's at home, but I gather the others are going out to toast one another after the ceremony. After all, they're all long time friends. Dan |
Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: Dan Schatz Date: 08 Feb 09 - 06:22 PM And best contemporary goes to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, for Raising Sand. Dan |
Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: Bill H //\\ Date: 08 Feb 09 - 07:01 PM In my interview with Tom Paxton he commented that he doubts he will win since the other contenders are so outstanding. Of course, he states, people will say--"..you never know"but, as he said- "..I do and I have been right 3 times now". He is, however, getting a life achievment award with people far different than his genre of music--as he stated---"go figure". But he does love the Grammys, he said---great parties and you meet really big names. I would hope that others would be as thrilled to meet him as well. Bill Hahn |
Subject: RE: Seeger, Paxton -- Grammy? From: Dan Schatz Date: 08 Feb 09 - 07:29 PM You can read Pete's reaction here. "I suspect," he said, "the reward for longevity." Dan |
