San Francisco's annual Festival Of The Sea will happen on Saturday and Sunday, September 9-10. It will be at the Hyde Street Pier on Fisherman's Wharf. There'll be traditional music, demonstrations of sailors work, crafts for kids, food, boatbuilding, and many other activities. Mudcatters Dave Swan (with Oak, Ash and Thorn), radriano, riggy, winters wages, and many other West Coast musicians and dance groups will be performing. Admission is free. Hey, wanna make this into a West Coast Mudcat gathering? I've been meaning to go to this festival for years, but I've always been concerned about lodging and parking. Maybe I should take the train.

Last year's was a lot of fun. I unfortunately only made it out on Sunday (and I had to ditch out on another event I was supposed to be at in order to make it). There were wonderful shanteymen and women, some great bands, a great book sale, and demonstrators for various nautical crafts and trades...

Highly recommended!

What the old chanteyranger isn't saying here is that he's the chanteyranger-big-wheel-in-charge-of-the-music at this shindig, and he puts on a helluva show. My band of idiots aside, there's really some talent lined up. You won't be sorry you attended this event.

Yes, Sean M., there'll be a chantey sing at the festival, on Saturday evening, September 9, 8pm. Chantey sing reservation/info number is [phone]. Look for a thread on a mudcat West Coast gathering from me within a day or so. If you can make it up here, there'll be some mudcat activities planned around the festival.
