Subject: To all Lincolnshire Folk Clubs
From: Rasener

I am wondering if any of you Lincolnshire Folk Clubs would like to partake in a joint appeal, called "GOLD Appeal".
This is run by Radio Lincolnshire and supported by Jeremy Spake.
It is one of most heart rendering appeals that anyone could support.
My thoughts were that each club could collect money from attendees at each folk session over a month, and then, we could all go to Radio Lincolnshire and hand the money over.

I don't want to get into long arguments about this. I just want to know how many clubs would be willing to do this.

Here is the info

Jeremy Spake, the star of BBC 1's "Airport" has been back in Lincolnshire to help with this year's BBC Radio Lincolnshire GOLD Appeal.
Jeremy launched the appeal this year which is all about making a dream come true for seriously or terminally ill children in the county.
We hope to raise enough money to take the children on a special flight to Lapland to meet the real Father Christmas in December.

Working alongside the "Wish upon a Star" charity Radio Lincolnshire are trying to provide this unique experience for as many of these courageous children as possible.

Jeremy is patron of Wish Upon a Star and is keen to lend his support to this year's GOLD Appeal.

Since it's on a radio show, why don't you all make up a CD of your best songs, and see if he will play it on his show?

Jeremy doesn't have a show.
Tom Lane and Mark Addison do and I am sure if that was done, they would only be too pleased to do that.
What a good idea.

And all Lincolshire Folk Clubs could sell the CD's to its members, with all proceeds going to the appeal.

Maybe something like the top 20 artists of Lincolnshire.
Would need a panel to decide that.

Subject: Gold Appeal - To all Lincolnshire Folk Clubs
From: Rasener
Date: 20 May 04 - 05:00 AM

Did anybody here Tom Lane on Radio Lincolnshire talking about this very worthwhile cause.
The idea is for Lincolnshire folk artists to donate a number to go onto a CD of the Very Best of Lincolnshire.
This Cd to be sold in all Folk Clubs in Lincolnshie with all proceeds going to the Gold Appeal which will take terminally ill children to Lapland this Christmas.

They also would like people who have the skills etc to get this Cd created to get in touch with Tom Lane.

Please all you Lincolnshire, do try and help this cause in one way or another, if you can.

you can also pm me if there is anyway that you can help.

Many thanks

Is this the one which only writers can take part in?

No Stollin'
If you have a song that is pro quality on CD but written by somebody else, that to my knowledge would be fine.

What they don't want to do is take the artists into a recording studio. They want the songs already produced. Then they can compile the very best onto one CD.

Then its up to Folk Club Organisers to push the sales of it, with all proceeds to the fund. I am willing to do that part.

We can all offer our own little part to this.

Anyway thanks for showing some interest.

Thats very kind of you guys.

Do you want to bring them to Market Rasen Folk Club tonight, and I will ensure that they get to Tom Lane at Radio Lincolnshire. I can also sit back and listen to the fine music that you guys do.

Oops looks like I am in trouble with Strollin' can't get it right(Stollin) :-) Its my dyslexic fingers again and screen blindness.

Good luck. But "the real Father Crhistmas"? I hope no-one will be dragged of on that wild goose chase unless someone's going to guarantee that the guy will deliver whatever they want from him.

That can never be done, but if they can get a bit of enjoyment from such a trip, then I see that as the most important thing.

"Wish upon a star" is the charity and they are working together with Radio Lincolnshie, who have raised £42000 already. Radio Lincolnshire need £66000.
The children being sent there are all from Lincolnshire.

Have a look at the website, then think of a folk song that brings tears to your eyes, and if this doesn't do the same then !!!!!!!!!

We are now in a position to move forward on this project.

Hopefully, the songs that will go on the CD, will have been written by the artist performing the song. If not then we will need to sort out things like the royalty situation first.

As such if an artist lives in the old Licolnshire boundaries and have a good qualty song (preferably written by themselves) already on CD then we are interested.

Some of the artists that have said they will help are :-

Miranda Sykes
Bill Whaley and Dave Fletcher
John Conolly
Dave and Julie Evardson
CARA
Stitherum

Many thanks to you all

Hissyfit kindly offered but unfortunately live north of the Humber and therefore do not qualify. A shame really but we have to stick to the rules.

Anybody else that thinks that they can help in any way shape or form, please pm me.

Tom Lane and myself will be discussing it further on Wednesday June 30th 2004 on Radio Lincolnshire, between 6:30pm and 7:00pm. So do have a listen.

Cheers
Les Worrall

Since Oaklet is in Lincs, perhaps PTH could donate Abbeyfeale off the recent recording.....?? David?

The DeanMeister - see my PM
That is a very nice thought and your post was a bit spooky as I was listening to CARA's version as I read your post.

At this moment in time CARA's version will probably be the one chosen. Apologies about that and do hope you understand.

Is there anything else that may be classed as Lincolnshirish?

Karen and Colin
Are you living below the bridge then? For some reason, I just assumed you lived the north side of the bridge.
Can you send me a CD then.
I will pm my address.
Many thanks
Les

Karen & Colin live in a whelk pen under the south pier of the bridge, so technically they are both below the bridge and in old Lincolnshire, even if they are below high water springs.

Do you know Skipjack, I do think I have seen them welking at low tide when I have gone over the bridge.
I think I could hear the strains of "row row row the boat" from Karen as Colin thrust his oar rythmically through the air.

When everything has been sorted out, we will inform artists who have been succesful as well as notifying those who haven't.
Many mnay thanks for those who have indicated their interest.

Villan,

I think that's a great idea. I'm sure that we would be keen to push CD sales at the Lincoln Club and do whatewver we could to support the project.
