I f there are any Twannglers, mandoliniers ,banjophonistes, harpists.pipers, whistlers singists, drummers, squeezerists or even musicians who like music of the Irish variety
There is an informal meeting at the old Cons club on Bargate Grimsby (you Know the one with the cheap beer!)
All invited to turn up at 1930 this Friday evening to see if there is any interest in arranging some sort of regular evening.
The more the merrier, and bring ideas for the form that you would like to see any such venture taking.
I will be attending and would be nice to see as many faces as possible so i dont get too lonely and have to drink all the cheap guiness by meselfs.
Will take bodhran just in case.

I'm a singist, my daughter is a dancer and my man is a tambouriner, but we can't come as we live so far away.

We would if we could and maybe we will. There may be a way.

If it becomes a regular event , let us know - Its a LONG walk from London when I am working on Saturday !! But if it becomes a regular I could just combine it with a trip to the Frozen North

Hi people,
You can stop holding your breath now!
here is the Gen.
Noel Corrigan has found a venue just away from Grimsby town center at the Old Cons Club in Bargate Grimsby UK
He is hoping to form a band to play irih music at fairly local folk clubs and to visit schools in the area to play to the kids in a bid to bring some culture to the little Dears
So between 0730 and 9 every friday evening is band practice after nine any one else welcome to join in or play.
there is a large car park and a bar and......
Most impressivly there is no charge thanks to the generosity of the afore mentioned club.
Here is Noels Email addres so you can contact hie for further detailss

Well I play a bit of whistle and have been known to sing in Irish. I play mainly Irish trad/folk with a friend in a duo, but always looking for different options.Live in Lincoln, but with help of a map and an armed guard might be able to make Grimsby (never been yet)
Any room?

hey am interrupting this thread sorry Twangy Tim, hope you don't mind
If you are from Lincoln, why don't you head to the Market Rasen Folk Club at Faldingworth Village Hall, near Lincoln on Friday as there is a good band called Cara playing Celtic stuff amongst others and is a good place to meet other music lovers and is very friendly to newcomers as well as regulars...see other thread Market Rasen Folk Club Friday Nov 4th...
Hope the Irish music club gets off the ground, Tim...hope to make it for some of the jamming sessions at 9

Thanks Rockhen - I played at Market Rasen a couple of weeks ago (Gone2theDogs) and had a great time.
I can also recommend Cara too - have played with Dave and Mike at sessions on many occasions. Good stuff!
Lincolnshire Poacher DC? What's all that about then?
Tim - worth a whistler coming along to this Grimsby thing then or what?

I would hsve thought so mate would be better to mail noel to check no glitches with being a new set up and all
The core group are all new players and seem to prefer ballad type materiel if that is any use to you.
They are also a nice bunch and very keen if inexperienced
you may find that they need some coaching to bring them out of their shell a bit.
it isnt exactly like sitting in the pub at Brock and jammimg with Dave john and octopus man!He HE but if the likes of Dougie Fast eddie and freaky fil crowder go along for the after 9 bit will be great

Pleased you could make it Dougie
I just checked the thread and I owe an apology because I thought I had mentioned that I was already promised to go to THe Market Raison Folk club this particular Friday and that Noels Irish night was a bti of a new thing and so on.
But I hadnt so sorry if gave wrong impression was purely unintentional.
Now probably given impression would rather have gone to Irish night than MRFC so will be in trouble again Doh!
So then Doug how did it go were you able to help the guys out at all?
