Has anyone else downloaded this new version? Apparently it is supposed to save even typed text in the event of a freeze or crash. When one starts it back up, it asks if one wants to return to where they were. One columnist said he tried it and it took him back to the seven open windows he'd had up AND the full text of what he'd typed up for a blog!

My main question is, though, anyone noticed the icons on the top, the Back, Forward buttons, etc. are really pale? Kind of bugs me.

Not only have they made it look wishy-washy, but the "open page in new tab/window" buttons work back to front.

I have not downloaded it yet, but I assume that like previous versions, text can be substituted for buttons. I ALWAYS do this, as I prefer the extra space.

And do I understand that 'session saver' has been made a feature without special 'extension'? I have had session saver for a couple years....and that feature is included with Opera. It is almost indispensable to me....though some folks don't like things saved at all. I often have 4-10 windows open when I sign off, and hate having to go re-open them in bookmarks.

Firefox will also, (with the right extension) allow you to see all the tabs you have open, or toggle that bar out of sight....lots of options.

I much preferred the method of going to the right corner to close the open tab.   Now you have to find it on the bar. I suppose I'll get used to it.

It may be there in some other form, I haven't looked thoroughly yet, but I could not find the checkbox to bar cookies from OTHER sites than the one you are viewing.

I read the stuff about it in their site, and I decided to wait a little bit till they've ironed out some of the bugs. It keep on saying stuff that read to me as meaning "this bit won't work quite right, but we'll be sorting it out soon".

So I think I'll stick with Firefox 1.5 for a little while. (Only time I have used Internet Explorer recently was for 30 seconds or so when I had to set my new computer up and needed to download Firefox.)

One thing you might want to wait for, if you use Roboform to fill in passwords, is a version of Roboform that is compatible with Firefox ver. 2.0. Otherwise you need to save all of your old passwords before you upgrade. [You can see who didn't think of this before he updated.]

I do like the spell check notice method in the new version, though. It indicates by a dotted underline which words it thinks you have misspelled. I had been using tinySpell, which merely beeps shortly after you misspell a word, so if you type fast you have to look back to see which word you might have spelled wrong.

The latest Roboform iteration, one that will work with the Firefox 2.0 is available free, from the Mozilla site. For some reason it didn't pop up for me, when I went looking through the Mozilla site.

I've just put Firefox 2.0 on this (my new) computer and have set it up so that it looks and reacts exactly the same as Firefox 1.5.

Try playing around with the Options - particularly .... Content - Fonts - Advanced - Display Resolution

I wonder if that will mean all the words where Americans use their own idiosyncratic spelling... Though the spellchecker built into Firefox 1.5 doesn't do that, it accepts both versions as correct. (Which means of course it doesn't pick up mistakes that happen to coincide with the spelling on the other side of the Atlantic. (But it thinks the word Firefox is a misspelling!) (Actually it's part of the Google bar - and it does accept Google as correct English.)

Oh, darn. I didn't hear about the Firefox upgrade, and there were things happening that made me nervous about my Firefox 1.5. In filling in forms, like the address on an e-mail, the cursor would often jump from one box to another without explanation. And when I clicked on a link, I would just refresh the page I was on and wouldn't go to a new page until I clicked the link again.

So, I was getting frustrated. I got an e-mail this week announcing Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, so I downloaded it. So far, it seems to work very well - and it has the tabbed browsers that were the main reason for my using Firefox.

So, I guess I'll pay homage to Mr. Gates for a while, and maybe I'll download Firefox 2.0 when I get frustrated with MSIE 7.

Katlaughing ...... when I click on the 'Advanced' tab I get a screen allowing the change of font, size etc. There is a box showing the Display Resolution. This is a drop down and allows you to change the dpi.

(kat..I'm just nosey...I have to look at all the menu items and options. I figgered out years ago that you can control 'almost' everything about how the computer displays stuff...from colors to fonts to underlining to size of icons on desktop to screensavers..etc....I don't even keep my 'bar' at the bottom. I grab it and drag it to the top.....and I set it to autohide everything that hasn't been used recently. You can even set to to totally autohide unless you mouseover it.)

(I like the idea of the new spellchecker in Firefox, but I will keep using TinySpell also, because it works in every window...not dependent on browser....I would HOPE that they allow choosing which spelling dictionary one prefers.)

When I downloaded this version of Firefox I was given the choice of British or American English, so perhaps the spell check dictionary is different between these two versions of the program.

Very pleased with Firefox 2.0 & immediately added a new skin: 'Mostly Crystal' really improves the look IMHO.

I've just noticed another problem- when you click the "open new window" icon, it sometimes, quite randomly, closes the one you started from when the new one opens.

Just installed it in the hope it resolves a problem I encountered with Firefox 1.5 affecting applications "losing focus".

This could be resolved previously by performing Ctrl-Alt-Del and switching between applications but it was tiresome.

Has anyone tried Colorzilla on the new release? I use it all the
time on 1.n and would hate to not have it for a while.

(Colorzilla lets you figure out the RGB value of an color
that appears on the screen...very handy for web developers)

I've noticed when it warns me that I am closing tabbed windows it doesn't give me any option as to which ones to close, unless I am just not doing it right.

Thanks, nutty. I still see only the font stuff and none of the drop downs ahve anything about resolution. I'll knock about in there later and see if I can find it.:-)

In my system, each tab has its own mini close button the tab itself, which can be used to close that tab. Also for those who prefer the old Firefox color scheme clicking on Winstripe, will allow you to change back to the colors with which you were familiar.
