East Coast Music Awards are on right now in Fredericton New Brunswick. Wish I was there. However I did cast my vote (Ron Hynes) for entertainer of the year and I will await the results. Anyone on the Mud attending the fun?

Ooh! Acronym clash - to me, ECMA stands for European Computer Manufacturers' Association...

I dunno Beer ... this year it seems the EMCA's has lost it's punch ... I attribute a lot of this to the CBC dumping the live presentations.

Good see Dave Gunning receiving some awards along with the Rankin Family. George Canyon, not a fan, but it's good to see a local making some roads to fame in the Nashville scene. Joel Plaskett, I haven't a clue what he is about, in fact never heard him.

Thanks biLL.
I guess if I do a search I'll find who was entertainer of the year.

Thanks biLL.
End of this post I guess. I hope the lack of interest here doesn't reflect what could or is happening to the awards.

Beer ... I think the lack of interest here is due to the fact that there aren't very many Catters who know of the ECMA's.

Hey gnu .... this year CBC decided not to broadcast the awards live .... a "taped" version will be on the air sometime in March.

"Gone Hollywood" ... you are correct on that in someways gnu ... a friend who was at the awards said most of the seats at the awards were for execs in the recording industry, promoters and even government officials .... the seats in the back were for the common folk.

Hey, Beer. It ain't just me. I got buddies who have won ECMA's who say "never again". Of course, they will be grateful, gracious and gushing when they explain that they can't make it to the award show because Aunt Sally needs help dusting the preserves in the pantry.

sIx... That might be a good thing, depending on how they do it. IF the show the other night was to showcase acts and GET people interested, then, the taped, and HOPEFULLY much longer version, may get more viewers... ???

Yeah, it's a long reach on my part, but the CBC execs are not ALL assholes or in bed with the "industry" or sucking up to politicians.

Am I reaching toooo far?

Sorry. Gotta do this.

I know it's not a nice thing to do. That's why I said sorry. I'll just go home now, full of the devil and.... hope another person saw them for the first time.

You could see them and a few others at the Celtic Colours Festival.

If you want REAL ECMA's and you wanna see folk... trad Celtic... trad Acadie... Labradorians, Newfs, Capers, Maritimers, with world stage performers... there it is.

Man that was great. Just had to take the guitar out and play along. Think I'll add that one to my repertoire.
You the man Gnu.

No need to apologize gnu ... damned good link ... thanks.

You are correct, Celtic Colours festival certainly exemplifies the finest of music in our region. I should also put a plug in for the Stan Rogers Folk Festival.

Haven't been there in 8 or 9 years. And I use to visit NS three or four times a year. Always had a great time, even if it was just a driving tour. Thanks sIx.

Ah, them Rankins!

Far less advertising of the ECMAs this year, for some reason - I haven't been eared up to East Coast music politics this year.

But Celtic Colours, centred as it is where East Coast music is probably most popular, and where both Newfoundlanders and PEIers, and NS and NB mainlanders can all fairly easily attend, that seems to be where the good stories are at, b'ys.

Right you are Bee. How is winter down in Charlotte (sp.)?

Gnu! Call my buddy Joe tonight and put the phone to the speaker and told him to listen to "Mull River Shuffle" because were doing it Saturday evening. He plays an accordion. Newfie to beat. Great great player. I told him I knew a fellow who played a great Drum and it sure would be fun if he was here.

Beer... winter sucketh mightily in these parts. I could really do with a good long thaw right now. Hope it's better your way.

On the bright side, I heard some crows making those bell-like calls they use in early spring the other day.
