Subject: New Session/Singaround in Staffordshire
From: mandotim
Date: 07 Dec 05 - 02:15 PM

Hi all! This is to announce that a session/singaround will be starting on 11th January at the Roebuck, Hilderstone on Wednesday 11th January 2006, and every 2nd Wednesday of the month thereafter. Hosted by Geoff (webfolk) and I, all singers/musicians/audience welcome. Informal approach, two kinds of music; good and bad, and bad is just fine as long as you sing/play it like you mean it! The Roebuck is a cracking little pub on the main road through the village, with a big selection of well-kept beers, and a landlady who is a real music enthusiast. Hope to see you there.

Don't suppose you know the postcode of said pub Tim?
I need to find out if the journey is do-able on the old Route map!

After I retire, in February, I shall be travelling to drum up gigs, so you may well be troubled by my presence at some point.

Thanks Willa, that's the one! Muppitz; it's a long way from you, but we'd love to see you if you can make it! Don; speaking of gigs, we're playing at the Roebuck this Saturday if you're in the area. Anyone who is travelling a distance, the pub does good home made food as well. (Sounds like I've got shares in this pub; I haven't, but I want to encourage a pub where music and musicians are really welcomed)

I will try to get there. My FIL was chairman of the Hilderstone anti speeding campaign, so, please do me a favour, if you are driving through, please watch your speed, it is a pretty village, but some nasty bends and dips in the road.

Ta.

Not really that far Tim, according to the ol' route planner it's 1½ hours away, I've travelled that far for gigs but it was a struggle to stay awake on the drive home!
But I will attempt to pay a visit sometime.

Good luck with it (with or without my presence)!

muppitz x

Based on the recepton we had the other night when gigging at the Roebuck Inn, Hilderstone, and the threat of a couple of local banjo's making their way in, this looks like benmg a crackig night, and the food and beer was excellent too.

Raft reach!
That Mr.Red reckons the Staffs scene needs boosting (see New Staffs Seession thread) Not if this one takes off! Hope to see lots of people there on Wednesday 11th January at the Roebuck Inn, Sandon Road, Hilderstone ST15 8SF. Kick off around 8.30 or so, finish when Kate chucks us out (which on past evidence will not be early!)

Oh spit! (I think they say 'spit'?) Tell you what Guest; since the two are more than 50 miles apart, rather than shuttle between the two on the night itself (which means you might miss the odd tune whilst travelling), why not go to Bedworth on the 11th, then come to the lovely Roebuck on February 8th? We'd love to see you! Will you be wearing a badge that says 'Guest' on it?

Many thanks to all who turned up at the Roebuck for an outstanding evening of music and general good fun. What a start to a new session! Very special thanks go to Joules and Muppitz, who win the 'Above and Beyond the Call of Duty' award for travelling 1 1/2 hours each way to be there! Hope to see you all again (and more!) on Wednesday 8th February.
Thanks again to all,
Tim from Bit on the Side

Sadly, this thriving session has had to change dates. The pub is starting to build a local trade again (after many years of decline under previous management), and the locals are demanding footy on Sky on Wednesdays during the season. Not unreasonably, the commercial needs of the pub have to be met, so the session is moving. The good news is, instead of being once a month, it will now be on every Sunday, starting at around 8.30. I'll try to get there at least once a month, but the session is now very much 'self-sustaining', and doesn't need a host. Hope to see some'catters there! Address is;The Roebuck Inn, Sandon Road, Hilderstone, Staffs ST15 8SF
Tim
