How can I teach a six year old child in a class how to sing rather than speak? Will that come with a lot of singing in the classroom and by providing her with opportunities to sing?

It worked for Rex Harrison. Maybe it's just her style. I am not trying to be rude here - but are your classes fun? Are your choices of music fun? If this little girl enjoys singing, she will learn a lot faster and participate more readily. Joe Offer has a wealth of information on children's songs. Ask him.

Try teaching some songs that go to games, like jump rope songs, hand clapping songs. It sounds like shyness to me, too. If you can get them singing on the playground while they play games, it may help encourage her.

Gee, you do have a similar approach to teaching and you do share the same problems! Amazing! Well, maybe not since you both share the same computer and the same DNA...........I'm beginning to love this stuff!!!

I like Gray Rooster's idea of humming...a similar idea is to introduce the students to the joys of the kazoo. kazoo's are loud and fun and even the most introverted child can be convinced to play along.

it does all look very suspicious.. but I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt... I'd hate to think we were treating someone badly who was really genuine........

If you're in doubt, open two windows and search in parallel for the postings of 'Everest' and 'Spaceman'. Look at the posting times in the different threads. Then you'll be convinced.

However, disregard the GUEST,Everest posting in this thread that led Spaw down the garden path (though he was on the point, in general). That was me, mocking about Spaceman and using his other identity for that purpose.
