Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST Date: 17 Feb 06 - 11:15 AM Its an open session. Theres usualy quite a few tunes. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST Date: 17 Feb 06 - 11:18 AM Are they smoking or non-smoking sessions please? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Graham and Jo Date: 17 Feb 06 - 02:56 PM Everybody's welcome. There are some smokers. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 18 Feb 06 - 12:16 PM I visited the Sun this afternoon whilst out walking the dog. Here are my first impressions: Positive: 1. It was open 2. It was clean 3. The toilets were not leaking 4. Simon & Terry were friendly 5. The quality of the Landlord bitter was good 6. The fires were lit and all of the lightbulbs were working 7. Blues band advertised for 26th Feb and also some Irish band on 4th March Negative: 1. The price of the beer has gone up 2. Naff background music and TV with sound on playing at same time. One or the other - but for me neither would be the best option for this heritage pub. 3. The pool table is still there – this pub has managed without one for 400 years until a recent landlord put it in a few months ago. It detracts from the ambience of the pub and can hardly justify the rental cost with what it takes. Also the pub is short of seating and needs all the room it can get – the pool table takes up space previously occupied by tables and chairs (not to mention where we used to run our Tuesday night session) 4. The jelly bean dispensers are still there – see pool table comments above 5. The "Wer'e(sic) not gay by the way" sign above the bar could be taken the wrong way by some. R |
Subject: Sun 19th Feb Session? From: GUEST,Geoff Wright (brackenrigg band) Date: 18 Feb 06 - 01:34 PM I am passing Beverley Sunday afternoon 19th with box - where might the session be? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: ossonflags Date: 19 Feb 06 - 04:45 AM There will be an allcomers session/singaround in the "Monks Walk" - that is just passed "The Sun" follow road round to Wednesday market pub is on left hand side.I understand it to be starting 3.30ish. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST Date: 19 Feb 06 - 06:58 AM Taa for that - I am certinaly going to the Sun - I will see what time we land in Bev. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: stallion Date: 19 Feb 06 - 07:36 PM Sorry to harp on about smoking but take heed from me, I have been in hospital (coronary care) three weeks out of the last four and i am waiting to be refered to leeds to have an operation or two. I have only drunk beer in moderation and have never ever smoked. Being a singer I often take in diaphragms full of smokey air and this has been flagged as serious contender for the cause of the problem. Now I am not a spoil sport but hey try smoking less, give the non smokers a choice rather than lump it, maybe even have fag breaks or smokeless hours. Accomodate everyones needs like asking for better ventilation, constant bickering of two intransigent parties isn't civilised. I am not saying don't smoke just bear in mind that it is exceedingly nauseous for non smokers to be in a smoke filled atmosphere. Sort it out |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST,ossanscookie Date: 20 Feb 06 - 02:57 AM Who is bickering? The people who attend the Beverley sessions know that smoking is allowed . We are all adults and are fully aware of the issue as is people who come - or stay away - from our sessions. Like smoking that is their choice. The sessions are held in Public houses were smoking is allowed, so it would be intresting to see the reaction of a few of the regulars if we put one or two of your suggestions to them. So thank you for your well meaning concerns and thoughts, but we don't need them ramming down our throats on every occasion and in every thread. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Paco Rabanne Date: 20 Feb 06 - 03:27 AM Well said Osson! To turn the thread away from the whingers, a few of us had a bit of a tune session in The Sun last night, all jolly good fun. When we set up in the back room the pool table was in the way and the TV was blasting out football. BUT once the landlord knew what we were up to, nothing was too much trouble. The telly went off, the pool table was kicked out of the way and a jolly night ensued. Cheers from sunny Humeltone, the land of the lost paragraph! |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 20 Feb 06 - 05:52 AM This ban on public smoking will hit the coffin makers initially but I'm sure business will eventually pick up and then you can do as you like in your own confined space! Good to see the music is slowly returning to the Sun Inn. Simon and Terry seem very friendly and accomodating. Saturday night was pretty well quiet so I hope business picks up for them. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST,ossonsanscookie Date: 20 Feb 06 - 06:40 AM . Yes, it is great to see the music returning to the "Sun" and I believe that the guys are having a good go and that we should encourage and support them. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST Date: 20 Feb 06 - 06:53 AM So has smoking already been banned in the Sun? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST,ossonsanscookie Date: 20 Feb 06 - 06:56 AM No. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Paco Rabanne Date: 20 Feb 06 - 07:18 AM We puffed away merrily in The Sun last night. This smoking ban is going to be interesting, out of the ten of us playing at last nights session, EIGHT of us smoked. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST Date: 20 Feb 06 - 07:53 AM So what is happening to the Sunday sessions then? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST Date: 20 Feb 06 - 12:21 PM cough, cough - I like a bit of -splutter - secondhand smoke meself - choke. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST Date: 20 Feb 06 - 06:22 PM Sorry folks, I was a bit pissed off at having to wait for potentially life saving operation(s), And having to take a combination of several drugs until it happens and consultants blaming it on passive smoking, nothing against the Sun or the people that go there, I saw a querry and went off on one, blame it on a bad hair day. try the Tap & Spile in York on a friday night it is a really good session. regards Peter |

Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 23 Feb 06 - 11:40 AM Is it Hodgson's this week - before the new schedule gets underway with Mick's session the following week in Monk's? R |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: ET Date: 24 Feb 06 - 02:37 AM Following Sir Rodger could someone set out the Sunday pattern from this Sunday. Is it Hodgsons? Then Monks, then Sun? Timing seems to get later. Used to be 2.30, then 3, now its more like 4 or even 5pm? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST,ossanscookie Date: 24 Feb 06 - 03:30 AM As I understand it from our discussion on Sunday it is "Hodgesons" this week, "Monks Walk" Ist Sunday in't month as usual. I thought the issue over the "Sun" was sorted that Sunday but I have been informed since that there still seems to be a bit of confusion on what is happening. I will not be at "Hodgesons" this week, but maybe one of the regulars will be able to inform you of the situation for the future. The "Sun" is honouring all previously booked "Punch The Horse" gig's the first is on 4th of March. Take your point about the inconsistancy of start times Eric. When we first started these sessions many moons ago it was a 2.oopm start for the first sunday and others started at 4.oopm I think it developed over the years into this loose sort of arrangement, so maybe we need to look at start times again. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 24 Feb 06 - 06:13 AM If I remember correctly, the agreement made at Monk's on the 19th (on a show of hands by those who were there) was for: 1st(and 5th) at Monk's 2nd and 4th at Sun 3rd at Hodgson's R |

Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 09 Mar 06 - 12:13 PM I have been down to the Sun and talked to the licensees, who are expecting us this coming Sunday. I have told then that we will start as close to 3pm as possible and that the session may run on until closing time - contrary to some rumours, there is no act booked at the Sun in the evening (it is Saturday)so people can stay and play for as long as they like. Real ales on at the moment are: Taylor's Landlord, Deuchar's IPA, Black Sheep Bitter, Old Peculier and Abbott's Ale. R |
Subject: RE: Beverley Sessions 2006 From: GUEST,ossanscookie Date: 10 Mar 06 - 01:59 AM That sounds like the makings of a merry afternoon Rog !! all we want is the heckler from last sunday to complete the day. |
