Subject: RE: Chester Folk Clubs??? From: Arnie Date: 25 Sep 10 - 11:39 AM My wife is from Handbridge, although she left many years ago. Her nan & grandad lived in a Duke's house by the water tower. I recall the Ship Inn, if that's the one by the bridge. Last time I went to a Chester folk club, it was in a pub opposite the train station - but that was also many years ago..... |

Subject: RE: Chester Folk Clubs??? From: GUEST,Suibhne Astray Date: 07 Oct 10 - 04:49 PM Well, we rolled into the Carlton around 7.45 after a very gruelling day on top of various ailments; we enjoyed the fine hospitality on offer, the free Wi-Fi, and a very fruity pint, but by 8.30 were zonking out, so we opted for a night in at our Travelodge at Northop Hall where I fell asleep during The Apprentice. Brighter today though; amazing weather in which to enjoy your amazing city and its many and varied attractions, including THIS which is a real point of pilgrimage! Rest assured, we'll be back! |

Subject: RE: Chester Folk Clubs??? From: GUEST,Suibhne Astray Date: 08 Oct 10 - 04:29 AM Like I said over on the Bellamy thread, I got into Randolph Caldecott via PB's The Fox Jumps Over The Parson's Gate album, the cover of which is based on that of RC's wee book of the same name which, as PB points out in the notes, furnished him with the song. I reunited the two in a wee YouTube film (HERE) using an online source, but have since bought the original - and many others which, surprisingly, aren't going to set you back that much... Also in Chester yesterday a rake around the cathgedral to reacqaint myself with a few old friends including a Foliate Osama who resides amongst the fine medieval green men sculpture in the cloister. I actually had a picture of him in Fortean Times a few years ago, but nothing like as clear as this one. |
