Subject: RE: Song Carriers - Unicorn - Manchester -UK From: Alio Date: 28 Aug 02 - 06:57 AM We don't often get down into the metropolis of Manchester (you need your passport to get back into Saddleworth after 10.00p.m.)but it sounds good, so I'll drag Geoff down there. Ali |
Subject: RE: Song Carriers - Unicorn - Manchester -UK From: Mary Humphreys Date: 28 Aug 02 - 08:11 AM Is this the club of which Terry Whelan , Dave Bishop and Martin 'the taxi' Rosmarin are founder? If so, I would recommend it to fellow Mudcatters. It is well worth a visit. I was one of the residents there from its inception until my removal to West Yorkshire to join Ryburn 3-step and miss it ( and its members ) rather a lot. I wish we had something similar in my new home area of Cambridge. Anyone who can point me in the direction of a good singaround session locally will be a friend for life! |
Subject: RE: Song Carriers - Unicorn - Manchester -UK From: My guru always said Date: 28 Aug 02 - 09:03 AM Apologies for drift..... Mary: Try the Folk Club at the Red Lion at Whittlesford (near Duxford) on a Friday night - it's mostly spots but very friendly & has session tune sections too. Much nearer to you guys than Barton anyway. Thanks for coming on Monday! Hil |
Subject: RE: Song Carriers - Unicorn - Manchester -UK From: alanww Date: 28 Aug 02 - 09:27 AM Great club and fascinating songs. Glad it managed to get re-established so quickly after the demise of the Ducie. I will certainly make a point of going there when I am in Lancashire ... Subject: RE: Song Carriers - Unicorn - Manchester -UK From: Harry Basnett Date: 28 Aug 02 - 10:38 AM Hope to get there but getting up at 5:30 a.m. and mid-week outings can be a bit tricky - - it's hard enough with Sundays at the Open Door...but I'll do my damndest to get along sometime. Nice to see Harry Boardman's old stamping ground in use again! All the best.........Harry Basnett. |
Subject: RE: Song Carriers - Unicorn - Manchester -UK From: Pied Piper Date: 28 Aug 02 - 12:06 PM Hi folks. I'm glad that you've found a new venue. Bernard's Friday night session at the Ducie is on again (at least for the time being). A little bird told me that the alterations will not be as bad as originally feared and I think the new permanent management when it arrives night not be averse to some trad music in the Pub. Anyway we shall see. All the best PP. |

Margaret and I still do, Mary, and very fondly. We were saying to each other only the other day that those nights at the Unicorn were some of the best we ever spent in any folk club. I played Swindon Folksingers Club last Friday (opening with Cob-o-coalin', to suit the time of year) and found that the memory of Harry Boardman is still very much alive in that neck of the woods. And I still rate Golden Stream one of my favourite albums ever. Btw, I've been trying to persuade the National Festival to book Joe Kerins, not sure with what success as yet. Anyone out there have Joe's number, I've lost it. Don't think we can make this Friday, unfortunately. Have a good one! Brian (just passing through in search of some words!) |
Subject: RE: Song Carriers - Unicorn - Manchester -UK From: Joan from Wigan Date: 12 Nov 02 - 11:46 AM Brian, I have Joe Kerrins' phone number, but don't want to post it publicly as it's ex-directory. Email me and I'll pass it on. Joan |
