Subject: WyoWoman's Music Article on stands now From: katlaughing Date: 12 Mar 03 - 03:46 PM You all might remember our own WyoWoman, who hasn't had much time to drop by lately, was working on a music article for Mother Earth News. You might also know that magazines have a long lead time for publication. Anyway, I am pleased to pass on the news that her article on making music is in the April/May 2003 issue, along with another article she wrote on Herbal vs. Pharmaceutical medicines. She says it is on the newsstands now, or will be soon. I've sent her an email to ask if this is the MUSIC & COMMUNITY article that she had a thread about in which she asked you all for your input and permission to quote. When I hear back from her I'll be sure to let you know. Way to go, Wyo!! Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: WyoWoman's Music Article on stands now From: JohnInKansas Date: 12 Mar 03 - 03:50 PM Do we assume the Herbal vs. Pharmo article is in that new "weed rag" she hooked up with recently, or is it in MEN too? (LiK subscribes to the herbal one - I wouldn't want to end up with 2 copies...) John |

Subject: RE: WyoWoman's Music Article on stands now From: Mark Cohen Date: 13 Mar 03 - 02:01 AM Outstanding! Things sometimes take a while to make their way here to the middle of the Pacific, so we probably have the December issue on the newsstands now (I hear "Songcatcher" will be in the theaters here very soon!) but I'll take a look as soon as that one comes out. Also very interested in the pharmacology one. Aloha, Mark PS: kat, I think he likes you... |

Subject: RE: WyoWoman's Music Article on stands now From: GUEST,Wyo at Work Date: 20 Mar 03 - 05:56 PM Thanks, y'all! I'm so happy to see it in print. Not quite as long as when I started out, but in the words of Saint Kurt Vonnegut, writing is always a process of expansion and contraction, expansion and contraction. Thank you for all you added. Couldn't have done it without you. As for me, yes, I've been scarce lately in these parts and I'm sorry about that. I'm busy as hell with work, but also with MUSIC!!! For the first time in my life I'm doing as much music as I want to do, and am enjoying myself so much. The guitar playing isn't great, but I've made peace with my insufficiencies ;-> and just keep plunking away. The voice still works, at least, and for that I'm grateful. I finally recorded a couple of songs last night in a friend's basement (he has a four-track, and a wife upstairs, so "recording" is not a euphemism for what we're actually doing in that basement), and might actually get around to making a CD before I get too creaky. Did a house concert with friends a couple of weeks ago and had a great turnout, have several other gigs lined up in coming weeks, and am jamming regularly with friends in Lawrence and in Kansas City. A pain in the ass to drive so far, but a great time once I get there. I'll send the editor in chief of Mother Earth News a link to this thread in a while to let her know you all noticed. So say "Hello Cheryl!" Love and rockets, WW Hmmm... maybe I want to take the rockets out of my closing now. It used to mean something so much more celebratory ... |

Subject: RE: WyoWoman's Music Article on stands now From: Tinker Date: 20 Mar 03 - 09:27 PM Found a copy today and really enjoyed the article. Nice work WW... When I sing Connemara Cradle Song I'll actually know what a curraugh looks like. Makes it pretty clear why mom prefers to keep daddy safe on the shore. I've thought of you several times lately as my husband flys off to Sandia...I keep picturing the gig you described and importing black wall street bankers... makes my day every time... Blessings |

Subject: RE: WyoWoman's Music Article on stands now From: Rex Date: 25 Mar 03 - 02:32 PM Wow! This was just what I was hoping our dear WW would do with her post at MEN. She did it. And somehow I missed it when she was gathering info for it in August. I was out doing the living history thing. Dang, I sure would have liked to throw in my two cents. Ah well, it's great that you got it done. Now I have to run out and get me a copy. But it's just like all the other critters. All God's children have a place in the choir. We all have to make our music, be it birds, coyotes or us. Rex |
