Subject: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 11 May 08 - 08:21 PM The date is set and I am meeting with the museum staff to go over a check list and get all our ducks in a row. Meantime, I have contacted "207", a local TV program, re: featuring us the night before on their local entertainment segment. Is anyone of our performers able to come in the day before to record a TV session for the evening program? let me know. SINS PM or cell 207-632-9562 |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 11 May 08 - 08:29 PM Sins- Most likely that would be a Friday afternoon? We might be able to pull 3 or 4 Roll & Go members together but we need to have a specific time. Some of us actually work during the day. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 29 May 08 - 08:12 AM Emails and PMs went out last night to all performers. If you have not received one, get back to me ASAP. The museum is working on the flyers, posters and website. I need a firm bed count or we will end up pitching tents. Actually Kendall has a pop-up camper we might employ. The time is now 10AM to 4PM We are thinking of making 10am to 11 am for children. Songs, prizes, demos - to build an early morning crowd. Anyone interested in performing then? SINS |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: Bat Goddess Date: 29 May 08 - 05:21 PM Hey, Mary! It might not be a bad idea to actually post all the info in one place -- location, date, times, performers, where to go to get more info, etcet etcet. I think there's probably people out there besides the performers! (Just a suggestion...) Linn |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 29 May 08 - 07:33 PM It will be going onto the museum website in the near future and, in July, probably onto the Maine Folk website as well. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 07 Jun 08 - 02:52 PM http://www.portlandharbormuseum.org/Events/Music_Event.asp Here is the link to the Museum's web page. We will be adding some info on the Portsmouth Festival and re-writing Three Sheets bio. Holly, Jeri, Micca - A picture and a bio? EBarnacle - are you in? Flyers will be ready this week so I can give a supply to anyone who comes on the 14th for the song circle. We need these put up everywhere and anyone along with stacks for motels, hotels, schools, town halls, etc. This weekend, Jacqui and I will finish the schedule for performers, the posters, and some plans for the Children's Hour. We will need volunteers for a thousand different things. I am going a-begging to see if I can drum up some sponsors. $50 to have your company featured on the posters and at the festival. If anyone is interested, contact me. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: karen k Date: 07 Jun 08 - 03:33 PM What is the date? |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: karen k Date: 07 Jun 08 - 03:38 PM Oops! Never mind. It is actually on the museum website already. Might think about coming up if it is not too hot. k |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 09 Jun 08 - 09:47 AM jacqui and I worked on the schedule and the poster this week. The museum page is up: www.portlandharbormuseum.org under events. Beg-a-thon is under way. Special request: Please do not post my home or cell numbers on your webpage. My cell is ringing at work and it is a problem. The museum has agreed to field calls. Use their number: (207) 799-6337 Rebecca and Mark are the contacts. Peter and Joann suggested a craft table for kids. It will allow us to advertise a Children's Hour to build the early morning attendance while keeping the music adult. Sailors' Valentines, decorative eye patches, fish prints. Simple, inexpensive but fun. Tiny to small sea shells needed. Glitter, sequins, small stickers, etc. Let me know if you have anything to contribute. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland Maritime Festival From: GUEST Date: 09 Jun 08 - 05:10 PM I can't actually get to their site through any of the normal means, which suggests that either they're busy updating it and took it off-line briefly or that their web provider is having a problem. As a rule, either of those should be resolved in a few hours, after which either jacqui's or link or www.portlandharbormuseum.org to get you to the main site should work. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Jul 08 - 08:21 AM Just a little aside here. This is the first time this event will have taken place and no money has been available to pay performers. Mary put this thread on the 'Cat in the hopes of attracting those of our friends who just like to make music to come for the day and have fun. She has been astounded at the number of performers who have ASKED to be included, even knowing that the only reward that they will get is the joy of making music with other like minded souls. It was felt that it would be unfair to ask any performer to take part, giving up most of a summer weekend when they could be making a living, to come and play for free. Now we have an unexpected abundance of performers and a very tight schedule, which we are still having to tweek to make sure that we can get finished by 4.00pm, as there is a wedding taking place a bit later and the whole site needs to be cleared for that. If, as looks likely, this event is a real success, there is a very strong possibility that it will be repeated next year and, maybe, even enlarged. Right now we are taking baby steps and trying not to get too ambitious so that we can get it going well enough to warrant a repeat. Our apologies go out to anyone who felt that they should have been included - I trust that the above explains why. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: kendall Date: 05 Jul 08 - 08:25 AM As I understand it, only those who performed or volunteered can be invited to the gathering afterwards due to the limited space. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 05 Jul 08 - 10:26 AM An addition to Jacqui's comments: I did not feel it was right to ask individual performers and especially the Portsmouth Festival performers to appear at the Portland event both because of the money issue and the "hijacking" aspect. There were no invitations sent other than the thread on Mudcat (God bless Max). Hopefully, this is the first of an annual event. Next year there will be some money and some experience, maybe even two days. I am genuinely thrilled at the response. Needless to say the museum is thrilled. It is a small museum with brilliant exhibits that go unnoticed by most. I volunteer when I can in the gift shop because the view of Casco Bay is stunning. I love it there. So, we will all have an amazing day of wonderful music and stories. The museum will be open for free so the public can get an introduction to its exhibits. Next year, when there is cash, this year's performers will be invited back and we will see where we are going. My hope is that this will be seen as a sister festival to Portsmouth and both groups will benefit. But for now we have to get through August 2. Note to Marc: Arriving drunk is OK just don't carry an open bottle. |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Marc Bernier Date: 05 Jul 08 - 01:35 PM Ok! I might still do some practicing. |

Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: SINSULL Date: 08 Jul 08 - 01:59 PM Where are you, Micca? Is it time to refresh that thread? |
Subject: RE: Update: Portland (Maine) Maritime Festival From: Micca Date: 08 Jul 08 - 02:01 PM The Great Adventure is due to start a week today (15th July) Sins I will put the proposed itinerary up later in the week and try to add the odd pic during the journey |
