Subject: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Banjiman Date: 03 May 08 - 08:07 AM Kirkby Fleetham Folk Club Saturday 17th May 8.30pm. £5 The next club evening at KFFC is on Saturday May 17th , with the concert kicking off at 8.30pm. Main guest for the evening is American Jeff Warner appearing as part of his 2008 UK Tour. He will be ably supported by 2 Newcastle Folk Music degree students …the beautiful voice of Katherine Davidson and the virtuoso banjo & guitar playing of Dan Walsh. Adding another musical dimension to the evening will be Cotswolds' based duo, Tinkerscuss. For those of you who enjoy some participative music we have a singaround at 7.00pm and again after the main acts at 11.30pm until we get thrown out (usually 1. 30ish). The club takes place in the function room at The Black Horse Inn Kirkby Fleetham, Northallerton DL7 0SH. Contact Paul Arrowsmith at kffc@live.co.uk to reserve a ticket . Further info at Kirkby Fleetham Folk Club or KFFC MySpace Jeff Warner on Jeff Warner With warmth, humor and understated scholarship, American Jeff Warner connects 21st century audiences with the music and everyday lives of 19th century people. He presents musical traditions from the Outer Banks fishing villages of North Carolina, to the lumber camps of the Adirondack Mountains and the whaling ports of New England. His songs have "the stamp of authority and real experience" (Tykes News, Yorkshire, UK). He has honed his craft in front of audiences across the country at festivals, museums, clubs and schools. His songs, rich in local history and a sense of place, bring us the latest news from the distant past. Jeff Warner Katherine Davidson on Katherine Davidson Currently I'm in a duo with Dan Walsh, our music isn't what you would call traditional in the stricktest sense. We both love traditional folk music but we also have a love of funk, blues, soul, bluegrass, swing. I think you can hear all of that in our music. I'm a born and bred Northumbrian who now lives in Newcastle. A finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2004/05 I now work for The Sage Gateshead with the Silver Programme which is for anyone aged over 50 to join, give them a call because it's a really worth while programme giving people many oppertunities that they would never, otherwise, have the chance to take part in.I graduated this year from the Folk and Traditional Music Degree at Newcastle University. It was a great degree to do and gave me the chance to discover what sort of singer I am...I'm still discovering! I'm guest vocalist of XYZs debut album and on, duo, Landermasons latest album which has been well recieved on radio 3 and made the mojo top ten. Performing at KFFC with Banjo & Guitar Maestro- Dan Walsh Kthryn Davidson & Dan Walsh Tinkerscuss on Tinkerscuss Tinkerscuss are sisters Erin and Bryony Holden; originally from Liverpool, England, but who now live in the south Gloucestershire Cotswolds. Their music is sometimes dark and 'eerie' / sometimes light and 'joyous.' (Early John Martyn songs are perfect for festivals) but always delivered gently and sweetly with a heady mix of Bryony's rich, powerful vocals and Erin's stunning guitar style. As one listener succinctly said "sweet seduction & honeyed venom" The Tinkerscuss experience has the listener held captive with flowing melodies and beautifully wrought narrative links between the songs. . very much in the style of the story-tellers of old. Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Deckman Date: 03 May 08 - 09:19 AM I was completly enthrolled by his music when he gave a house concert here in Seattle last Fall. You can always tell when a performer really know that of which he sings ... and Jeff sings really true. You folks on the other "side of the pond" are in for a real treat. ENJOY! Bob Nelson |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Brian Peters Date: 04 May 08 - 07:22 AM >> You can always tell when a performer really know that of which he sings ... and Jeff sings really true. << ...not least because his mother and father, Frank and Anne, were themselves distinguished song collectors. And (with reference to the 'from the singing of' thread), Jeff has the ability to make the stories of the singers they met a vital part of an entertaining evening. Go see. |

Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: The Greyt Hound Date: 12 May 08 - 01:06 PM Hi Mr Banjiman, A quick question for your good self. Can one still bringing campers or now the weather is nice tents to camp on Saturday night after the performance. Sometimes it is nice to have a few drinks and after your world famous singaround marathons it might be nice not to drive home. And of course now that summer is here it would be lovely weather for camping. I am sorry to ask but I forget what you mentioned before about accomodation. |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Banjiman Date: 13 May 08 - 03:23 AM Hi Greyt, Yes vans and tents very welcome, you can use the facilities in the pub, B & B available at the pub too at £25 pppn......why not have a weekend in this beautiful part of North Yorks? Plenty of other good music available on Fridays and Sundays within a reasonable distance. If you want to camp, let me know and I'll square it with Phil the Landlord. Cheers Paul |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Barry Finn Date: 13 May 08 - 11:59 AM I don't know if Barbara B is traveling with Jeff on this tour, I haven't been to our local session in a bit, but if she is then make sure you get her singing along with Jeff (or on her own) on a few, she's not to be missed either. Send 'em back home in better shape than you got them, please. Barry |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Banjiman Date: 13 May 08 - 02:48 PM Barry, I think Jeff is traveling on his own. Can't promise to send him back in better shape....we have strong ale over here, but we will do our best to look after him! Paul |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: BB Date: 13 May 08 - 02:48 PM ??? Barbara B (but not the one mentioned above) |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: GUEST,BB Date: 13 May 08 - 06:52 PM Hello First BB, It is the Second BB here, the one Barry mentioned. I write in occasionally as Guest BB. Not to confuse me with you (we know who we are!), but neither of us are travelling with Jeff Warner this time. As far as I know, that is! At least one of us will be home, enjoying strong ale. Thanks for asking, Barry! BB the 2d |

Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: BB Date: 14 May 08 - 02:23 PM My queries were concerning what you said above, Barry, i.e. "Send 'em back home in better shape than you got them." Is Jeff not in good shape then? Barbara |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Barry Finn Date: 14 May 08 - 05:14 PM "Is Jeff not in good shape then?" Go to his performences, you'll love 'em Buy his CD's, again, you'll love 'em Buy him beer, you'll love him more Give him lots of good food & keep him out of the rain & cold, shelter him, transport him with care, don't let the floozies get the better of him, & make him sing & play, that keeps in tip top condition, but mostly when your done with him send him back, you can't keep him. If you do all that, he'll be in fine shape when he gets home, just the way we let him go off. Barry |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Banjiman Date: 15 May 08 - 04:30 AM Barry, we'll do our best to fulfill our obligations here! BBP, we'll miss you between now and July! Paul |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: BB Date: 15 May 08 - 02:23 PM I know we can't keep him, but we can't keep him away either - he's back again in a couple of months, and delighted we are too! Barbara |

Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Banjiman Date: 18 May 08 - 05:28 PM Just to reassure our American friends, Jeff was in fine fettle when he left here last night.....oh and while playing too. Kat Davidson & Dan Walsh were also absolutely superb.......find an excuse to see them if you can. Great singing from Kat and absolutely blinding banjo(and guitar) from Dan. Paul |
Subject: RE: Jeff Warner + more at KFFC 17th May From: Tootler Date: 18 May 08 - 06:11 PM An excellent night. I agree with what Paul has just said. Try to get to see both Jeff and Kat & Dan if you can. Geoff |
