We held a meeting today and decided that the response from people in the village was to say at best crap.
As ordering food for the BBQ was a priority and with such a lack of response, we felt the effort on our part was not worth it, especially as we are already putting on a concert in the evening for Allan Taylor (which is definately on).
So very sorry for that, but hopefully you will understand.
We hope that we will see as many people as possible on the evening for Allan.

From my knowledge Doug, the pub isn't licensced for music, plus they are not that interested.
Its just one of those things.
We still have Allan Taylor in the evening and tickets are selling well for that.

We are looking at another possibilty at the end of August, so will keep you informed.

Ummmmm, why cancel just because "the response from people in the village was to say at best crap". As far as I'm aware, none of the villagers are players or singers anyway, so why does their interest, or lack of it, have any sway?

A session is, by definition, for the benefit of the musicians who take part. It's not a concert, not an audience event, it's a 'come along, bring your instrument and join in' event. Seems as though a fair number of musicians had expressed their intention to be there, why ruin their day just because the joskers aren't begging for tickets?

That may be it Doug, although, knowing them as I do, and in view of the fact there's a concert in the evening which will almost certainly be a sell-out, I still don't see the need to cancel the afternoon session.

Words like 'knee' and 'jerk' spring to mind.

Ah well, I guess it'll free the afternoon up for me to go car-hunting! :-) :-)

You are not correct but there you go.

In one breath you criticise the villagers, but you fail to recognise, that in order for it to happen, it requires villagers to get the food, prepare and do the BBQ. It also requires villagers to run the bar.

These things just do not happen. Poeple have to give of their time freely and willingly. And these p[eople are as you quite rightly say "Not musicians".

In fact if you want to run it BWM, feel free.

We will very willingly let you have the village hall for nothing from 12 noon to 4 pm.
No bar and no BBQ.
Room to be left tidy for the villagers to come in and get the evening event set up.

The village hall will be closed from 4pm to 7:15pm whilst all perparations are done.

Can't be fairer than that.

Quite a few, according to the original thread, GS. But seemingly the performers and their commitment aren't what's important. They're just bit-players in support of an ego, and when they question the decision to cancel, they're publically and unjustly subjected to vitriol and abuse.

Ehhhhhh wot ! Come on chaps! I think you are all on the same side as wanting to promote, enjoy and play live music, aren't you? Did I miss something, if so, I apologise. This forum is not great for expressing things at times and I suspect if the same conversation had occurred face to face it would have been accompanied by appropriate tones of voice and body language to make meaning and intention clear.
Anyone prepared to run the session as it stands, just using the space? I am too chick-rockhen as I am not really a session player but was hoping to come along and join in a little. If no one wants to run it, I guess that is that, isn't it?!
Not getting at anyone, just think it is a shame if people fall out...

Three cheers for you Rockhen - you are absoluetly right when you say you cant read emotion in the written word,and this storm in a tea cup would not have happened if done face to face. Les (not being a session player)suffers from ill health but tried to organise a session as well as Faldingworth Live, and when he gets no support from people he relied on, the correct decision for him was to cancel.
However he has given us session players the option to organise it ourselves. I live too far away or I would offer my support (I organise a session in Retford). Does anyone know what Liam , who Les had asked to lead the session, thinks about it???

In answer to your question about Liam.

He is prepared to lead it, if there is enough interest and although it isn't a Faldingworth Live event, I and Dave are prepared to pay for the hire of the hall, from the Faldingworth Live kitty.

So, for all those who may be interested, the hall is available from 12 noon until 4pm. We do expect that the hall is left in a clean and tidy state after.

Faldingworth Live need the hall from 4pm to prepare for the Allan Taylor concert and will not be open until 7:15pm after sound checks.

So a good response will secure it.
