Subject: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 25 May 08 - 04:08 PM We held a meeting today and decided that the response from people in the village was to say at best crap. As ordering food for the BBQ was a priority and with such a lack of response, we felt the effort on our part was not worth it, especially as we are already putting on a concert in the evening for Allan Taylor (which is definately on). So very sorry for that, but hopefully you will understand. We hope that we will see as many people as possible on the evening for Allan. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 25 May 08 - 04:13 PM Those people that have ordered tickets for Allan will still be OK |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rockhen Date: 25 May 08 - 07:50 PM What a shame re the session. :-( Still looking forward to the Allan Taylor gig, though, Villan |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: GUEST Date: 26 May 08 - 03:41 AM Do you have a village pub? Could the session be held there so that the locals could hear what there missing? DC |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Doug Chadwick Date: 26 May 08 - 03:48 AM I'm on a different computer these days which doesn't remember my cookie. I keep forgetting that I have to log in each time I restart. That was me above. adding to the above…… If the locals knew what they were missing, they might be prepared to make an effort next time. DC |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 26 May 08 - 04:42 AM From my knowledge Doug, the pub isn't licensced for music, plus they are not that interested. Its just one of those things. We still have Allan Taylor in the evening and tickets are selling well for that. We are looking at another possibilty at the end of August, so will keep you informed. Les |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Backwoodsman Date: 26 May 08 - 05:32 AM Ummmmm, why cancel just because "the response from people in the village was to say at best crap". As far as I'm aware, none of the villagers are players or singers anyway, so why does their interest, or lack of it, have any sway? A session is, by definition, for the benefit of the musicians who take part. It's not a concert, not an audience event, it's a 'come along, bring your instrument and join in' event. Seems as though a fair number of musicians had expressed their intention to be there, why ruin their day just because the joskers aren't begging for tickets? |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Doug Chadwick Date: 26 May 08 - 05:50 AM Presumably, someone has to pay for the hire of the village hall. DC |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Backwoodsman Date: 26 May 08 - 08:11 AM That may be it Doug, although, knowing them as I do, and in view of the fact there's a concert in the evening which will almost certainly be a sell-out, I still don't see the need to cancel the afternoon session. Words like 'knee' and 'jerk' spring to mind. Ah well, I guess it'll free the afternoon up for me to go car-hunting! :-) :-) |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 26 May 08 - 08:21 AM Your welcome to your opinion BWM You are not correct but there you go. In one breath you criticise the villagers, but you fail to recognise, that in order for it to happen, it requires villagers to get the food, prepare and do the BBQ. It also requires villagers to run the bar. These things just do not happen. Poeple have to give of their time freely and willingly. And these p[eople are as you quite rightly say "Not musicians". |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 26 May 08 - 08:27 AM In fact if you want to run it BWM, feel free. We will very willingly let you have the village hall for nothing from 12 noon to 4 pm. No bar and no BBQ. Room to be left tidy for the villagers to come in and get the evening event set up. The village hall will be closed from 4pm to 7:15pm whilst all perparations are done. Can't be fairer than that. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 26 May 08 - 08:29 AM Must go out now as I have to take my wife out for her birthday. TTFN |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Backwoodsman Date: 26 May 08 - 03:05 PM "We held a meeting today and decided that the response from people in the village was to say at best crap." YOUR words Villan. "In one breath you criticise the villagers" I repeat, they were YOUR words Villan. People in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones. My last words on this thread, the rest are in my PM. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 26 May 08 - 04:21 PM Don't think I was criticising the villagers John. I was saying their response was crap. I am not the one who has to do the organising for that. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Georgiansilver Date: 26 May 08 - 06:16 PM Who needs the villagers anyway...what about doing the session without them?????? |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Backwoodsman Date: 27 May 08 - 04:38 AM "Who needs the villagers anyway...what about doing the session without them??????" GS - Isn't that pretty much what I said, before I got the shit heaped on me? "Don't think I was criticising the villagers John." Bullshit. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 27 May 08 - 04:55 AM John Stop taking things out of context. The response from the villagers for the BBQ was zero. I don't have any input or anything to do with the BBQ or indeed the bar. It was a crap response from the villagers, but nowt to do with me. You were not at the meeting, so your comments are misguided. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Backwoodsman Date: 27 May 08 - 05:24 AM Bullshit. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Georgiansilver Date: 27 May 08 - 05:59 AM So dieth yet one more good idea.....wonder how many people were actually coming to the session to play or view.....? |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Black Diamond Date: 27 May 08 - 06:52 AM I was.... and I would have come even without a BBQ and bar ... Lin |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Backwoodsman Date: 27 May 08 - 07:21 AM Quite a few, according to the original thread, GS. But seemingly the performers and their commitment aren't what's important. They're just bit-players in support of an ego, and when they question the decision to cancel, they're publically and unjustly subjected to vitriol and abuse. |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rockhen Date: 27 May 08 - 12:54 PM Ehhhhhh wot ! Come on chaps! I think you are all on the same side as wanting to promote, enjoy and play live music, aren't you? Did I miss something, if so, I apologise. This forum is not great for expressing things at times and I suspect if the same conversation had occurred face to face it would have been accompanied by appropriate tones of voice and body language to make meaning and intention clear. Anyone prepared to run the session as it stands, just using the space? I am too chick-rockhen as I am not really a session player but was hoping to come along and join in a little. If no one wants to run it, I guess that is that, isn't it?! Not getting at anyone, just think it is a shame if people fall out... Retreats to search desperately for comforting bar of chocolate, fearing fallout from battle zone... |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Black Diamond Date: 27 May 08 - 02:10 PM Three cheers for you Rockhen - you are absoluetly right when you say you cant read emotion in the written word, and this storm in a tea cup would not have happened if done face to face. Les (not being a session player)suffers from ill health but tried to organise a session as well as Faldingworth Live, and when he gets no support from people he relied on, the correct decision for him was to cancel. However he has given us session players the option to organise it ourselves. I live too far away or I would offer my support (I organise a session in Retford). Does anyone know what Liam , who Les had asked to lead the session, thinks about it??? Lin |
Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 27 May 08 - 03:25 PM Lin In answer to your question about Liam. He is prepared to lead it, if there is enough interest and although it isn't a Faldingworth Live event, I and Dave are prepared to pay for the hire of the hall, from the Faldingworth Live kitty. So, for all those who may be interested, the hall is available from 12 noon until 4pm. We do expect that the hall is left in a clean and tidy state after. Faldingworth Live need the hall from 4pm to prepare for the Allan Taylor concert and will not be open until 7:15pm after sound checks. So a good response will secure it. Cheers Les |

Subject: RE: Cancelled Session June 14 Faldingworth From: Rasener Date: 28 May 08 - 02:27 AM I am going to start a new thread called "Session June 14 Faldingworth 12 Noon to 4PM", rather than carry on this thread. This is the link to the new thread thread.cfm?threadid=111555&messages=1 Would you all be kind enough to confirm that you will be coming along, on the new thread please. Many thanks Les |
