What a wonderful pool of undiscovered talent My goodness, I'm just all a gog at the wonderful voices!

Aine, I've sent 3 sound files to Max, he played one on the radio tonight. I guess I should start making more recordings! Thanks for the encouragement!

I just hope that I wasn't sluring my speach to badly and that I behaved myself. I had been out drinking all day and finished off after the pubs closed with 5 pints of cider at home. I can remember visiting hearme but I have no recollection of who was there, what was sung etc. or what was played on the Mudcat Radio but at least I have an archive for that.

Lorraine, last time I checked, Hearme still don't offer support for Macs. It is something they say they are working on - can't come soon enough IMO - I beieve these programs should be as accessible to everybody as possible.

Aine, I hate recording myself. There is a rare one of me doing 3 Score and Ten in about 1987 at 3 Score and Ten. It was part of an attempt to record myself and to "double track" using 2 cassette players that played at different speeds - quite a challenge... If I can find the tape again, I might put one of the sets of banjo tunes and some of my melodeon playing up but it lost admid my chaos at the moment.

Isn't there something else besides Hearme that we could all use? I'm on a Mac, too, and this is really a feeling of being left out in the cold to not have access.

Alice, the ultimate plan is that Mudcat hosts something and my offering is only temporary. I don't like the fact that no Mac support excludes some peple but I have gone as far as I am prepared to go to help with a short term answer.. If you can think of something and set it up, please do. I am sure we would all support something that works as well and is available to more peple - for what it is worth, I would certainly support you.

Alice, just re read what I said, I do not have my own server and I am on a dial up connection - one of the beauties of Hearme it that they have the servers and all I need to do is provide a page on my free webspace (not run by my computer) to create a page to host the room.

With the Mudcat plans in mind, I am reluctant to do anything else as we could do a lot of chasing for nothing (try a few only to go to MC) but if you find something and want somebody to do the work of placing it on a web page.., if it looks feasable within those limitations, I will try to help.

Better clarify. I do run MS Personal Web Server but I simply do not have the resources to actually play host from my PC.

Has anyone tried Powwow, yet? Does it support MAC users, too? I understand it would allow us to harmonise and hear each other at the same time, so two or more could sing together?

If the world were sane, MACS would have 89% of the stuff, and Bill Gates would be a slightly well-off computer geek..and BETA VCRs would rule, and QWERTY keyboards would be archaic...etc...but I finally bought VHS and have a PC, just so I only have to whine about reliability, not access...

I just checked a few powwow sites. I cannot get to the main one as content filter has it blocked, but none of the pages I looked at showed it as for anything except windows.

kat, I downloaded Pow Wow a while ago and apart from the objections revolving arounn new software, more downlaods etc. it looked to be complicated to host a community room. The help files are not that great. This is the voice chat info:

"To request a Voice Chat Session

1. Right-click on the name of your Buddy in the Buddy Window. 2. Select Request Voice Chat.

Your Buddy receives a Voice Request message.

When your Buddy accepts the Voice Request, the Voice Connection dialog opens on each person's computer. A voice connection is then established.

If your system can support the Full Duplex setting, you can talk to each other as though you were using a telephone. The Half Duplex setting works more like a CB radio, with each person taking turns speaking and listening.

To end a voice chat session, de-select the Voice Chat menu item.

Remember: If you want to use the Voice Chat and Instant Voice Message features, your system must have a microphone and a sound card. Voice Chat can only be used when you already have a connection with a Buddy. To use the Voice Chat feature, you need a communication speed of at least 14.4 kbps and an 80486DX or faster CPU.

This option is not available for AIM and MSNMS Buddies. If it is grayed out for any other Buddy, he or she is probably using an older version of the application.

When you want to talk with a Buddy instead of typing, there are two ways to do it: Request a Voice Chat session and send an Instant Voice Message. You can use the voice features to talk with any of your Buddies who use this program or other messaging programs based on the PowWow technology from Tribal Voice, Inc. (You can invite your AIM and MSNMS Buddies to try Voice Chat and other PowWow-based features. Pass it on!)"

Re the session and harmonising, I realy find that hard to imagine. I would have thought that with the net congestion, speed of some of our kit, etc. that the time lags would make that impossible regardless of the software(just my opinion and I may me wrong).

Also, in the system requirements it says "Operating System: Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0 or higher." and makes no mention of a Mac version being available.

I agree on the bit about harmonizing. People were actualy making text comments on stuff last night BEFORE my box was indicating that they had "spoken". And I doubt if anyone can type THAT fast....

MMario, you should have been on the Folk Chat IQC Active list 3?? weeks ago on the day of the Mudcat Radio. I think most of it was down to my computer crashing be we were experiencing lags of 10 minutes at times. It made for some interesting reading...

Praise - you doing anything friday night? My family will be out of town...and I will be able to sing....without having to worry about who is watching tv, who is asleep.

Why does this remind me of high school? Hey - the parents are away - let's party!

Well Praise, sorry to cause another refresh but maybe sometime when you are bored or just fancy a sing around, try going to Hearme and annouce your presence here. It is not guaranteed to work but it is quite possilbe that a few people will come along and join you.

Another thought: we had the all embo night the week before last after MCR and it looks like Alison strated this one - perhaps youl'd like to start something next Wednesday after the show...

I had a great time, especially with my stunning rendition of "My Stupid Internet Connection Doesn't Work". I hate coastalnet.
I'd like to come Friday, but I'm already committed to the local high school Battle of the Bands. (Ridiculously bad bands, for the most part, but some of them are my friends, so I'm obligated. And at least a few of them have talent.)

I greatly enjoyed my fist "hearme" experience last night. Thak you all for being so gentle. :>) I've got plenty of RAM & hard drive, but I operate a Pentium 90, which is threshhold level speed for hearme. My incoming sound kept breaking up, and some stuff I never got to hear at all. But even with all that, I greatly enjoyed the chance to listen, chat and sing with other family members. Jon, I especially enjoyed your rendition of Sam Hall. I hadn't heard it in a long time and know there must be a million verses to it. Thanks again to all who "dropped in".
