Any one going to Whitby for the New Year?I shall be going earlyish on the New Years eve and coming back on the Friday the second if anyone wants a lift in the Punchmobile .

I have had a last minute cancellation from Aberdeen....and they had booked two rooms.eeeeek!

If anyone out there fancies a few folkie days over new year then let me know pronto!!!

Sadly also Dave and Edna have had to cancel too. Keeping room open for them but they are badly bruised after a very nasty car accident. Here's wishing them a speedy recovery...we will miss them I'm sure.

JHohn, you should know that I as a trained and professional Trade Union negotiater much prefare to use reasoned and balanced argument in dealings with the boss class.This has long been a well tried and trusted method in dealing with the exploiters, sorry - employers - of directlabour.However, sometimes a good kick in the slats goes somewhat to tip the balance of power in your favoure.

We aren't going to stay in Whitby but will be at the Globe from Wednesday to Friday/Saturday so may get down for a bit.

Briefly,

Whitby is a small fishing port, come sea side tourist resort on the North East Coast of England in the county of North Yorkshire, it has a long and famous history which include St Hilda, who founded a Abbey there at which, in 665AD, the date of Easter was set (first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox)
Captain Cook the Explorer also lived in Whitby for some time and sailed out of Whitby on mnay occasion.
It now hosts one of the finest folk festivals in England (in August each year) if not the world, and draws singers and musicians to it's many taverns and bars all year long.
Each December many singers/musicians gather to celebrate the New Year and generally have a ball, not in the dance sense of the word, although some of the walking home in the early hours of the morning could be classed as such.
If you check on the Google search engine Whitby does have two or three sites dedicated to it. but put Whitby Yorkshire as there is also a Whitby, Nova Scotia, several thousand miles away

I know my friends, Derek and Mary Droscher (who run Banbury Folk Club and Banbury Canalside Folk Festival), are intending to go again this year. They may be there already, even as I write this! Pity I cannot make it myself. Enjoy yourselves ...
