I realize this is not a country western song, but if anyone on the mudcat or guest has a recording that they can send me an MP3 I'd really appreciate it.It is a Bing Crosby song written and recorded in 1945 I believe and was on the hit parade for 20 weeks.hanks in advance Louie Roy

Hi, Louie -
The Harry Fox Agency, hfa.com, lists three songs with the title "I Can't Begin to Tell You. One is by Jerry Foster and Bill Rice, another by Ray Griff - both were recorded by artists I've never heard of. The third song was written by Mack Gordon and James V. Monaco, apparently for the Betty Grable movie The Dolly Sisters. It was recorded by Betty Grable and Harry James, by Willie Nelson, and of course the 1945 recording by Bing Crosby. I also have it on a terrific CD titled When Dinah Shore Ruled the Earth (get it?).
Send me your e-mail address so I'm sure the one I have is up-to-date.

I CAN'T BEGIN TO TELL YOU
(James V. Monaco, Mack Gordon)

I can't begin to tell you
How much you mean to me.
My world would end
If ever we were through.

I can't begin to tell you
How happy I would be
If I could speak my mind
Like others do.

I make such pretty speeches
Whenever we're apart.
But when you're near
The words I choose
Refuse to leave my heart.

So take the sweetest phrases
The world has ever known
And make believe
I've said them all to you.

[instrumental break]

I make such pretty speeches
Whenever we're apart.
But when you're near
The words I choose
Refuse to leave my heart.

So take the sweetest phrases
The world has ever known.
And make believe
I've said them all to you.

This was the most successful recording of 1945 for Bing. Recorded Aug. 7 with Carmen Cavallaro at the piano, the song rocketed to the top of the Billboard charts, where it remained for 6 weeks. All together, "I Can't Begin to Tell You" stayed on the pop charts for 20 weeks.
