Subject: Charles Dicken's Festival Music From: Laura McDonal Date: 30 May 99 - 05:01 PM Hello, I am looking for music that was popular at the time of Charles Dickens around 1830-1860 or so that can be played by a concert band at a Charles Dickens' Festival. I know music halls were popular but I don't know anything about the music of the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Laura McDonal, Riverside Concert Band in Riverside, California |

Subject: RE: Charles Dicken's Festival Music From: bill\sables Date: 30 May 99 - 08:48 PM Laura, I worked for a British T.V. station when we made a drama series called "Dickens of London." In the production there were a few songs used which were recorded on an L.P. I do have a copy of this record, If you can't find anything else I could record it on tape and send it across to you. Let me know if you want it. Cheers Bill |

Subject: RE: Charles Dicken's Festival Music From: Richard Bridge Date: 31 May 99 - 04:56 AM I live about 500 yards from Gad's Hill House, which was Dickens' home for most of his life. In Rochester, Kent, about 3 miles down the road, they have at least one Dickens festival a year, perhaps 2. Good for tourist trade. They never have any music, much less anything vaguely resembling folk music. Write to Medway City Council, The Civic Centre, Strood, Rochester, Kent, England and point out the error of their ways. |
