The TIN ERICKSEN/Mama's Broke show at City Winery Boston on Wednesday is in danger of cancellation if they don't sell some more tickets. If you're hoping to go, or know somebody who might be, you could help out by getting tickets today. TIM ERICKSEN IS A SINGER SONGWRITER AND STUDENT OF MUSIC. HE HAS LED THE MUSIC PORTIONS OF SEVERAL MOVIES ... AND IS ESPECIALLY WELL-INFORMED ABOUT SHAPE NOTE MUSIC --- SACRED HARP MUSIC --- AND WAS "INSTRUMENTAL" IN THE MUSIC OF THE MOVIE COLD MOUNTAIN, SET DURING THE CIVIL WAR IN Cold Mountain, North Carolina, WHICH INCLUDES A SCENE OF A CONGREGATION SINGING SAHPE NOTE HYMNS IN A CHURCH. HE WAS IN A MUSICAL GROUP CALLED CORDELIA'S DAD SEVERAL YEARS AGO.

Whoever wrote this, however well intentioned, should know how Tim Eriksen's last name is spelled. It should also be stressed that Eriksen is not yet another singer-songwriter but
a uniquely informed. impressively gifted traditional artist. Mama's Broke, which takes an original approach to old folk music, is also well worth your attention.

It would indeed be sad if the concert had to be canceled for lack of interest. The music-listening public would be the loser if that were to happen.

I heard Mama's Broke at a house concert in Stratford, Ontario, about four years ago. They were boffo.
