Subject: Cork Folk Festival From: GUEST Date: 13 Aug 00 - 06:54 PM Anyone visiting Ireland at the beginning of September might be interested in the Cork Folk Festival. 31st August to 3rd September. Unlike many of the brewery-sponsored commercial Mickey Mouse festivals which pollute the calendar and confuse the visitor, this is an independent established event. Takes place in various theatres, hotels and pubs around Cork City. This year will feature Altan, Waterson Carthy, Seamus Creagh, Jimmy Crowley, John Spillane, the Boat Band and many others. Lectures, workshops, fiddle, song, box and pipes concerts, sessions and céilís; you have to find something that interests you. I'm not connected with this festival but I have enjoyed it in the past. I hope my information about guests is accurate. |

Subject: RE: Cork Folk Festival From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 14 Aug 00 - 07:32 PM Thanks for posting this. I can't go to Ireland this year, but perhaps next year. How long has this festival been going on? Can be expect a repeat? Is there a phone number for it? I know what you mean about brewery-sponosred festivals. Went to one in Bantry, and the people didn't even know how to make an Irish band (Dervish) feel at home. The singer cried, "Show the foreigners what to do!" but the audience just stared at her. She should have stayed in Kansas. |
