I just read an article in the paper about the local constabulary, somewhere, blowing up a beached humpback whale to put it out of its misery.

It's lungs had collapsed and it was extremely dehydrated.Efforts to get it back into the ocean had failed,so they packed explosives under it and detonated them.

Is this what yo had in mind?
