A: Because the result doesn't Feel like your own. So
what you need to do, (writing them from scratch aside) is
find lyrics that are more obscure.

Lets start a thread of obscure, old or traditional, lyrics. Alot of regional folk lyrics from around the globe are on the internet, but too often they're not in English. Like Turkish folk songs- I've found tons but all of them are in Turkish. Anyone?

Generally (generally, I said, OK?) low number Child Ballads fill this bill.

Look in the Bodley and Levy collections. Loads of songs here which have been forgotten (Quite rightly too, in most cases!).
