For those interested in Helen Creighton informaion, the Helen Creighton Folklore Society has a web-page at

Helen Creighton Folklore Society

I've just added a new page to it, on the Sea Songs Project.

LAst year, the Tall Ships came to Halifax. During the previous year, the Society had asked Dan McKinnon, a local singer/songwriter, to compile a list of Sea Songs and related material out of the field recordings made by Dr. Helen Creighton.
The songs were then evaluated and a number of them were put onto a pair of CDs. These CDs were made available all summer at Evergreen, the old home of Dr. Creighton.

The Society is looking at making these CDs commercially available. The material Dan put together, we have made available on a web-page here:

Sea Songs Project

Hope you find it useful.

I'm not sure. Over a broad period of time. She started her work in the late 1920s, and continued through into the mid-sixties. Dr. Creighton wrote several books including many of the songs she collected. I would guess the bulk of what is there would have been from the forties and fifties.
