Subject: Folk in Chorley, UK
From: Dave the Gnome
Date: 14 Feb 02 - 07:23 AM

I got an email from someone yesterday telling me (amongst a group of others!) that Frank Wilson from the Prince of Wales club in Chorley has disappeared off to Ireland and may not be coming back. To this end his co-resident (Wolfman Jack) has asked for any assistance in running the club, which runs every other Monday.

As my own club is on a Monday I cannot help but I thought I would drop a note here to see if anyone in the area may be interested.

PM me if you want further details.

Cheers

Dave the Gnome

I, too, was on that email list - sent by John Joyce, former organiser of the now-defunct "Folk at the Inn on the Park", Astley. I understood from that email that John and Wolfman Jack have now teamed up to keep Chorley Folk Club running. It will still meet on the second and fourth Mondays, but will only be booking guest artistes once a month (instead of every clubnight, as has been the case up to now). So if anyone tells you Chorley Folk Club has closed, tell 'em it hasn't!

John also mentioned that a website has recently been set up for the club, and although it is still under construction, it may be worth checking it out at a later date: Chorley Folk Club.

Having been at the club both as a member of the audience and as a guest artiste, I can confirm it is a very friendly club, welcomes floorsingers, and the landlord is very happy that the club meets there (he is more into jazz than folk, but loves live music of all descriptions). He has also been known to independently book at the pub artistes who have been booked by the folk club.

The club next meets on Monday 25th February, so please support it by going along if you possibly can. And if you're an artiste wanting a booking, I too can provide John's email address if you PM me.

Joan
