Have you ever come across a song where you are sure that if the powers that be had heard it, things would be different? What was it?

I re-discovered this gem last night in a vain attempt to sort out (ha!) a crate of old recordings. 'Scuse me, but I gotta go pack my bags now....

THE MUSTANG RANCH
©1996 cosyng music/BMI

I want to work at the Mustang Ranch
With the financial crisis I've got a chance
To be a civil servant in my birthday suit
Well-insured in my ill-repute
The savings and loan that owned it had to fold
Look what's in the hand the government holds
See how your tax dollars are spent
Come on out and stick it to the government

I won't ask what my country can do for me
I'll do it for them I won't do it for free
Its a budget solution that finally fits
Lie back and think of the deficit
I'm going to get the Mustang back on it's feet
And stay off mine till the job's complete
Help Uncle Sam pay all of the bills
While I learn the world's oldest sellable skill

Chorus:
Here's a solution Newt hasn't thought of yet
Come do the Big Nasty for the national debt
I'm going to put one hand over my heart
Pledge allegiance with my private parts
Bring us all your budget problems
Here at the Mustang we love to solve them

I'm going to get the Mustang out of the red
It's community service like the President said
It's a natural resource no one's protecting
A grazing fee they're not expecting
This is equity it's public land
It's money on the bush and a bird in the hand
In the land of the brave the home of the free
Come on out and play with your currency

Chorus:
Here's a solution Newt hasn't thought of yet
Come do the Big Nasty for the national debt
Can't you hear his marketing campaign
We've got unwed mothers, they're already trained
Come out where even the waste is hot
The weather is dry, the women are not
We're the place to clean your gun
We solve welfare and we have fun
We're the Contract on America
And we've only just begun

LOL!! It's a reasonable extension of their existing activities, and they can claim compliance with the bumpersticker about "Love, not War". Wow!! Wodda coup!!

Actually, I feel that way about a lot of the Weavers' old stuff, and also about "Night Rider's Lament", and a mess of old Episcopalian hymns, with some reservations, and a number of spiritual-type songs like "Study War No More", and certainly about "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream" and perhaps "Passing Through".

The problem is that the powers that be would not only have to hear them but also receive them which is slightly different and far less likely!
