Subject: Tech: Tabs on a TV
From: maldenny

Is it possible to play a music file on a TV whilst showing an associated picture? I'm thinking of a picture of a piece of tab (GIF or JPG), with the tune being played in the background at the same time (WAV), then fading to the next tune/tab combination etc. I've got a DVD player for the TV, a CD and DVD recorder on my PC, and the appropriate wav and gif/jpg files, but how do you get them to work together?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

It's certainly possible, but probably more work than you would think. I do this two completely different ways, depending on what exactly I am trying to do. My graphics card has a TV-out socket and can take the sound output as well. I use this style when showing digital photos, usually very soon after I have uploaded them. It is possible to configure the software I use to take different lengths of time on each photo and use various transitions, but I wouldn't bother when I am running things this way.

The other method I use is to prepare a DVD on the PC (I use VideoStudio), write it from the PC and then play that on the TV using the DVD. Again, I mainly use this for photos, but for a more planned 'presentation', varying timings, mixing stills with video files, adding in captions etc.

Notice that both methods use things you may not have!

Thanks DMcG. I'll follow up the second method you suggest - do you know of a reasonable shareware alternative to VideoStudio as I don't want to spend too much money before seeing what the end results are like!

What I'm trying to do is show a piece of guitar tab on screen whilst the appropriate music plays in the background. Would your second method facilitate this?
