Subject: Folklore: Blackpool/Fylde band ??? Boots 1960s/70s From: Scrump Date: 12 Jan 07 - 03:29 AM I posted this question in the "little known 1960s folksingers" thread but it's got buried in there, so I thought I'd start a separate one, to ask about a group I remember vaguely from the late 1960s or early 1970s. They were (I think) a trio (but could have been a duo?) and I believe they were based in the Fylde area (Blackpool possibly) (Lancs, England). Their name was (I think) "??? Boots" where "???" is something I can't remember. I've been racking my brain to remember - I don't think it was "Brown Boots" but maybe it was after all? ISTR one guy played a mandolin, and probably another played guitar, but my memory is all a bit vague. They moved to London in about 1970 or '71 IIRC, but I never heard of them afterwards so I guess they broke up or something? Sorry it's all very vague, and not much info to go on, but does anyone remember a duo or trio answering this (admittedly incomplete) description? |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Blackpool/Fylde band ??? Boots 1960s From: GUEST,IGB Date: 03 Mar 07 - 07:23 AM Bonded Boots - Howard Bond & Dave Walters. Residents at Fleetwood Folk Club @ the Queens 1969- Ian Gartside co-Resident Fleetwood FC c1970 - (after The Wayfarers Split) Howard & Dave were joined by Boz in the early 70's then went off to seek their fame in London - Howard is still playing (in fact he did a stand-in stint with the Ian Gartside Band in 2005 and was on stage with them at Fylde Folk Festival on the Sunday Night.) When Dave returned to Blackpool area he formed a band (Sullivan) and a Scuba Diving Business with Ian Gartside - "The Belle Ballerina" song came out of this when they split. Dave Walters - has several Recordings to his name with several line ups (Including The Dave Walter's Band) - a search on Google will give you several reference to appearances and recordings. Howard Bond likewise. hope the above helps... Pete |
