Subject: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Barbara Date: 11 Jun 99 - 01:27 PM Hi crew. Portland Folklore Society just confirmed their summer gathering date with us. We live about 50 miles SW of Portland Oregon (25 miles W of Salem) on 60 acres of farm. Fields, orchard, creek, swimming hole, rolling hills, woods. Every year we host a music gathering in July. YOu can show up Friday late if you want, most people start arriving by noon Saturday, sing and pick pretty late into the night, camp out and get up for pancakes and more music Sunday morning. It tends to have about 30 people, and be fairly unstructured. We provide a portapotty, cookfire, campfire, griddle, the Sunday pancake breakfast, and guided tours and hikes. You provide Saturday eve potluck dish, camping stuff, music, and about $15. (we divvy up the cost of the griddle, PP, and pancake stuff). Club person in charge collects it at the time. Post here or send me a private note if you want more information. Blessings, Barbara
Mudjack (Jack mostly folk) came last year. Hoping more of you can make it this year. |

Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: reggie miles Date: 12 Jun 99 - 09:55 AM Ah nuts, I have shows Thursday-Saturday and have to work Sundays doing the same. Somebody's got to find the green stuff, no rest, no breaks. Got to keep my nose to task if I want to win that coveted title hardest workin' guy in the business. Whistlin' whilst I work... |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Barbara Date: 13 Jun 99 - 11:44 AM You're Vancouver, Reggie? Let us know the next time you come south. Delighted the rest of you are planning to come, and I'll ship you some directions, Frank, unless you're planning to be at the Corvallis Folklife Festival next weekend? In which case, I'll be working the music sales table Sunday, 10 to 2. Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: reggie miles Date: 13 Jun 99 - 11:07 PM Vancouver Reggie, uh, no I don't think so, I mean I've been there but I don't reside there. You mean to say there's someone in Vancouver with my name too? I found out recently that there's a young man in Canada that has adopted my production company's name, Stray Dog Productions. Is nothing sacred! Is that legal? I've used that name since 1995. Corvallis Folklife Festival, I've never heard of that one. Can I get info off the web about it? Do they hire acts to perform there? Yeah I know it's a little late for this year but perhaps next. Anyway I live just beyond the event horizon of the known universe, about an hour northeast of Seattle, in a little town known for nothing in particular, I like to affectionately call Snakebutt, (spelled just like it sounds). Sawry, must be some more of those clones they made of me when I was a mere lad out there stirin' up mischief again. I thought I had them all rounded up and safely under lock and key back at the research lab. |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 14 Jun 99 - 12:51 AM Doggone it, Barbara--why couldn't you have put it off to the next weekend? My wife and I are going to be in Corvallis from the 22nd to the 26th. Our SOs could have shared their horror at a gas tank that's only half full. --seed |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Rick Fielding Date: 14 Jun 99 - 01:07 AM Wish I could be there Barbara. Doin' the best I can to try and get some gigs in the great Northwest through Frank at the moment. It's one of the few areas in this little world that I'd love to visit for the first time. Amazingly enough, after thirty years of travelling...Ireland is the other. Don't know how I've managed to miss it!
I know what you mean Reggie. When Borealis records took their name, I don't think they knew there was another record company (also in Toronto!!) with the same name. There are other bummers as well. Canada's David Wilcox, and the USA's David Wilcox have both been playing over twenty years! Must drive them crazy. My friend Greg named his bluegrass band "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" and had all their promo printed up when yours truly sadly imformed him about the "other band" with the same name. |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Barbara Date: 14 Jun 99 - 01:22 AM I've been hearing, Rick that you're trying to set up gigs out here. Good luck! I posted the Folk festival at Corvallis on a separate thread, with the link. If you want, you can drive up here from Corvallis, Seed, we're about 35 minutes away, and that's less than a tank of gas, even if you're down to 1/4 tank (empty -- in some people's minds). Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 14 Jun 99 - 01:43 AM Great, Barbara. I'd love to take you up on that. --seed |

You're all welcome to join us in July. Seed, I'll get a personal out to you as soon as we get our summer plans straight. Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Barbara Date: 10 Jul 99 - 12:46 AM Let me bring this back up to the top to remind you all that youre welcome to come here to our farm in NW Oregon on July 17 - 18. We got the griddle and the portapotty ordered so we're all set. The strawberries, rasberries and boysenberries are all ripe now, and we may see some blueberries in a week, if it stays warm and sunny. Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Barbara Date: 19 Jul 99 - 10:21 AM We had a wonderful weekend here. The weather was just about perfect, and we had about 30 people including a large contingent of kids. The Mudcat turnout included me, Mudjack and wife, Frank of Toledo with wife and two boys; and JR and his wife. One of these fine folk left us a nice tuner and jack, and if no one claims it (you listening, JR?) I'll put it up for auction.
Thank you all for coming! If any of you other Mudcatters are on this side of the Great Divide, and/or want to travel, the summer gathering with Portland Folklore Society is something we host every year, and is usually the second or third weekend in July.
Blessings, |

Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: DougR Date: 19 Jul 99 - 01:23 PM Barbara: Do you live anywhere near Welches, OR? I have good friends who live there and are fantastic folk music performers. Tom and Marie Teven (Celtic Pride). Sounds like you will all have a great time! Wish I could be there, but alas, the desert has a hold on me. DougR |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: DougR Date: 19 Jul 99 - 01:26 PM Barbara: Me and Reagan! I didn't realize until I wrote that last message that your shindig was two days ago! Oh well, I read somewhere that they are working on some miracle drugs of some sort for what ails both me and the former President. DougR |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Nancy of Toledo Date: 20 Jul 99 - 01:45 AM Wow, thanks for a great experience Barbara and Mark! no wonder these song circles have gone on for 10,000 years; there is much to share. I wish we could have incorporated the kids into the singing, but they were doing a pretty good job making their own fun. it was a wonderful time in an idyllic setting, thanks again. I'm already learning "From the Lambing to the Wool" for next year. |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Mudjack Date: 21 Jul 99 - 01:22 AM JR, I told Barbara that you really did'nt want that plug in tuner and that's why you left it for me. But she was totally convinced you had left it by mistake. We all had a wonderful time and folks, I'm here to tell you our Mudcatter's are as nice in person as their cyber- personas. Look for more Mudcatter's as it looks like our talking about and example setting may recruit some additional folks from PFS. Mudjack |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: JR Date: 21 Jul 99 - 10:42 AM Mudjack... I'd be remiss if I didn't ask what you'd have plugged into? |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: MAG (inactive) Date: 21 Jul 99 - 11:02 AM Can't believe I missed this! and I was even in Portland over the weekend! Next year ... MA |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Mudjack Date: 22 Jul 99 - 12:23 AM JR, sorry, I thought the tuner had a plug on it. A tuner was found and in the dark I thought it had a plug in jack. Did'nt mean to confuse me any more than you. Is anyone else wondering what it is we're talking about? If it was'nt yours then Barbara's going to auction it away....Oh no....maybe it was mine. Thanks for the songs you shared. I had'nt heard some of them and looking forward to hearing them again so as to find your song sources.Great stuff. Jack |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Mudjack Date: 23 Jul 99 - 12:27 AM Ohhh..JR, I think it finally sank in what you were referring to. My little gitpicker has a %#$@ pick up also, It aint blue but can imitate an electric when it has to. Now I'm really confused .......besides the thread was about to drop out of the bottom..time to renew it. Mudjack |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: JR Date: 23 Jul 99 - 11:04 AM Mudjack.. yeah, the tuner is mine, and the attempt at humor was a bit obtuse. |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Mudjack Date: 23 Jul 99 - 12:55 PM Obtuse? OK I was'nt sure I wanted to go there.Be thinking about how we can do this Mudcat gathering again. Barbara's is great and we can do that every year. We should try and have another Mudcat gathering. I have a feeling our numbers would grow.Besides I know you have a song bag of songs I want to hear. Mudjack |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: JR Date: 23 Jul 99 - 03:27 PM Mudjack.. Been thinkin about a where, & hadn't got a good conclusion yet. Maybe one of these times when we go to Yakima, we could stop in "the windy city" on the way back for an hour or two. |
Subject: RE: July 17th at (Blessings) Barbara's From: Mudjack Date: 24 Jul 99 - 03:02 AM Windy City? Oh no that isn't wind, it's by products of the clouds from the west side of the Cascades. When the clouds release all the H2O there, those old clouds have to burb the left over air and it just happens our way. You are always welcome to our abode. You are can always spent the night as our guest, we have a spare room.I'll send you an e-mail with my off site address. Mudjack |
