Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: black walnut Date: 05 Dec 06 - 10:03 PM Thank you Kat for the colourful presentation! I've been on and off the 'Cat, in transit today, so pleased for the piggyback. Yes, Mooh, and thanks ... this calendar contains beautiful artwork by Canadian folkies, and it's for a great cause. It would look good on the wall of your kitchen or your friend's office or your child's teacher's classroom -in fact just about any wall will look better with this calendar on it! "Through a Musician's Eyes" is for sale in Canada at places such as The 12th Fret (TORONTO), The Ottawa Folklore Centre (OTTAWA), the Northern Lights Folk Club (EDMONTON), Hugh's Room (TORONTO), The Craft Council (NEWFOUNDLAND)...and other clubs and stores - just ask me for one closest to you. And if that's not convenient, we're trying to make the act of having one mailed out to you in a non-bendable fully recyclable envelope as painless as possible, just ask. We'll mail them to the U.S., England, South Africa or Antarctica - we'll figure out the cost of the pony express for you. Proceeds go to help send creative artists to work with Native youth in isolated and remote northern Canadian communities. You don't have to be Canadian to enjoy this calendar - you only have to be a lover of good art and great folk music. It has been really amazing to work on this project - I've gotten to know some very amazing caring generous people! ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: JennieG Date: 22 Dec 06 - 07:28 PM Thanks for posting about this - one of the featured artists, Cathy Miller, is a friend of mine so I ordered a copy from her. It may well be the only one in Oz! Cathy and I know each other from both music and quilting; the world is a very small place these days. Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: black walnut Date: 23 Dec 06 - 11:43 AM Cathy is great - she's known as The Singing Quilter. The quilt in the calendar is called Geese from the Garbage. There's a lot of great bio information and stories about the art pieces at the website on the Teatime page. I'll make a blue clickie for it...RIGHT HERE! ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: black walnut Date: 23 Dec 06 - 01:30 PM Cathy Miller's bio and photos appear to be missing from Teatime. All the other artists are there. Sorry about that...it's under remedy! ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: iancarterb Date: 26 Dec 06 - 03:37 PM Kat- I did not see in my lunch break hurry any calendar-specific retail list. Did I miss a list? I'd look at the VFMS home at Old Town Strings in Victoria if I were there at the moment, but I'm not. Carter |
Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCi From: katlaughing Date: 26 Dec 06 - 04:26 PM hi, Ian, Not sure if I understand you correctly, but in case my head is not totally thick on a sleepy day after Christmas,(**bg**) CLICK HERE for a list of retail shops and online or email addys to buy the calendar from. If that's not it, holler and I'll see what I can do.:-) |
Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: black walnut Date: 26 Dec 06 - 05:11 PM And there are a few other stores and clubs which are late additions to that list. However, a Victoria-ite's best bet would be either to order over the 'net (PayPal or send a cheque)...or contact one of the calendar artists, Eileen McGann, a Vancouver Islander - she was selling a bunch of them at a fall art sale, and may have some leftovers. Please let me know what you decide, Ian. Here or email teakettle@teakettlepress.com. And thanks Kat - so you had a very merry day, didja?! ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: iancarterb Date: 26 Dec 06 - 05:39 PM That's exactly what I wanted. Thanks both. I'll knuckle under and get it in line! Thanks- Carter B |
Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: black walnut Date: 27 Dec 06 - 05:11 PM I just sent calendars out to Wells and Penticton. Maybe I should send out a whole box of them to B.C. :-) Oh, and no more wind storms, you guys! ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCircle From: black walnut Date: 30 Dec 06 - 09:41 AM Because of this thread, we've been sending calendars to AUSTRALIA and to IRELAND and places in between! Thank you so much. We picked the artists for the calendar because of their connection to the folk music world, but we picked their art because it is beautiful and creative. Look at David Atkinson's stunning October cat, for instance. He is a master at marquetry. The cat is made from Anigre (quartered & curly), white Limba and Swiss Pear (natural and black dyed). And in his musical life, he's a blues guy who makes his own instruments. Speaking of cats...do you have a favourite month, Kat? ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: 2007 Calendar for Musicians -Support ArtsCanCi From: katlaughing Date: 31 Dec 06 - 03:55 PM Well, of course the Cat one for October. Esp. when one sees the entire box which he made encompassing that face. What incredible talent! I also love the small quilt of geese. The whole calendar is SO beautiful. Thanks, again, Debbie! |
